Sharper....

I don't know if this helps with Sharper or what but the Jets, who were trying to sign Sharper, signed Brodney Poole FS of the Browns.
Hopefully this means he comes back to the Saints but he doesn't sign a contract that bites us in the arse.

This won't be possible because they won't offer him a contract that isn't favorable to the organization. If they were going to overpay for him, they would've done so already.

I would've definitely taken Pool at that contract. He's had some pretty solid seasons, and that's backup money. Would've been a good backup plan if Sharper doesn't come back.

What about Sean Jones? I heard he was visiting the Bucs. If he doesn't sign there, would it be worth bringing him in?

We should overpay, it's an uncapped year and the teams income has gone up.
Sharper made a huge impact on the team and we will be worse without him.

I would think there would be some sort of drop off if he wasn't here, yes.
But overpay him? He's 34, coming off minor knee surgery (sorry, but anything to do with the knees isn't as minor as you'd think). Spend where you have to (can you say DE, LB?). Besides, the offer they made him is as fair as fair can be.

Spend on what? There is nothing much out there to spend on, aside from Sharper.
I say, give him 3 years / $15 million. Front load the first year, something like 8.5 mil, 4 mill in year two, and 2 in year three.
With the way he played last year, we should be paying for that. The Saints only paid him right under 2 mil last year, so if I were him, I would be asking the Saints aboot ponying up for that.
With no cap this year, give him what WAS worth last year, and pay him for a couple more years. Make the contract so that if his play drops off dramatically, then cutting him would not effect the cap too bad. The guy earned.
Now him being a dick and saying the Saints are not showing him any love, well that is ridiculous. What aboot last year when NO ONE wanted you, and the Saints brought you in. No love, give me a break.

Absolutely. Why not pay the guy for last year, when he tied the league lead for picks, broke the NFL record for most return yardage, and took three to the house?
If Porter and Greer weren't hurt, he would have had a few more picks in there.
By his play last year, he definately has at least one more year in him. No cap, great season last year,.... Pay Him.

Look, I like Sharper. Hell, I joined the fb group to keep him in NOLA. But we should NOT sign him to anything unless and until we know that he can at least pass a physical. When you are an athlete in your mid 30s, there is no such thing as a minor surgery. He didn't practice for much of the season because of the knee. He's not getting much attention from other teams because of the knee.
Make monetary decisions with your mind, not with your heart.

Pass a physical? Come on guys. You seriously think he will not be able to pass a physical in a few weeks.
There is no heart in this matter. As a matter of fact, I am PISSED aboot what he has been saying toward the Saints. "Showing love" works both ways.
I just feel that the performance he had last year, plus being in this system, with these cornerbacks, the Saints might not find a better replacement. Why not use some of the money that was going to be spent on Fujita, and send that to Sharper? Remember, I am not talking aboot giving him a shite ton of money for 5 years, just what he was worth last year, plus this year. Then after that, ie. 2011, his salary can go back to normal.
You guys are ridiculous if you think under two mill was enough for what he did to this defense last year.

No, I am 95% sure that he will be able to pass a physical in a few weeks. But until that happens, you don't throw money at him.

That statement was all emotion...

Which will probably happen. AFTER he passes his physical. Why the rush? No other team is going to sign him until AFTER he passes a physical.

No one is saying that.
Again, take a step back and look at it objectively. No one is going to sign him until he can work out again. He wants to be in NOLA, and NOLA wants him. Pay no mind to the silly media reports about "no love". That's almost certainly taken out of context and is an example of posturing.
And while you're at it, take a look at the date that he signed with us last year...

Because hopefully that money will be spent to either replace Fujita or Grant or get a run plugging DT.

I've seen someone suggest a 3 year deal that pays 5/3.5/2.5 I'd be ok with that. He gets a bit of a premium to make up for last year and is easy to cut if his performance declines. Everything Sharper has said he seems to be assuming he can play at the same level for 3 more years based on Rod Woodson, so I think he is looking for something that pays him at least 4-5 each year for 3 years. I don't think he's going to get that and the Saints are right to wait him out.

While I look for the date, why don't you look a my first post and realize that IN NO WAY did I say to sign him right now. Of course, no team, including the Saints, will sign him until he can pass a physical. Only the Raiders would do something that crazy. But if the Saints had a respectable deal for him, he would not be talking like that to the media.
Yes, maybe his quotes were taken out of context, but who is he trying to posture against? What, he makes it seem that he wants out of NO so other teams don't have to bid as hard?
Bottom line, you, I, or anyone other than the FO of the Saints doesn't know what is going on in this situation. I just realize that depth wise, with nothing on the market, and Usama Young, the Saints need to have Sharper next year. If Jenkins is the answer, so be it. But now there would be a hole at cornerback.

I happen to believe that you're a chicken little.
It's March 12th. Chill, brah. Sharp'll be back in the fold and it'll be all good.

This dude had a career year for an old fart- let him go-he will come crawling back- "Not getting the love from the Saints" is his quote- fk you you smilin over paid Canadian!

The Saints weren't going to pay him 6.9 million to franchise him, why would you pay him 8 million for the first year now. The Saints don't pay you for what you did last year. We did that with Brooks, after he got his money, he played like crap. If he was offered over 11 million for over 3 years, and he turned that down, let his arse go to whoever wants a 34 year old, limping around after knee surgery, safety who only cares about the money, and not the team. I see him on TV crying about the Saints not giving enough money. No one is going to match what the Saints have offered.

How many times do I have to say it....UNCAPPED YEAR DOES NOT MEAN WE HAVE UNLIMITED MONEY TO THROW AT PLAYERS.
