Volunteer Opportunities

Anyone know of any real opportunities for a local to help with the clean up?
Every time I call one of the volunteer hot-lines, I get the usual, "we've got thousands of volunteers...we will give you a call."
I'm afraid that this will end up like the Katrina relief effort where we had thousands of out-of-towners coming down and not having a clue...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
