Really, f*ck that stupid s.o.b. and the network that employs him. It's hard to imagine how anybody could be more stupid or a bigger a-hole than to contend that natural oil seepage (as IF such a thing could ever be measured, anyway) means we shouldn't be concerned about a concentrated spill spewing out millions of gallons of day creating giant oil clouds in the sea.

I tend to agree with you except for
If thats the case then all the networks can close up shop.

true.
both cnn and foxnews are astonishingly retarded at times.
but, politicizing the potential impact of this spill is dishonest and immature.

Brit plays a special role on FoX.
Rex's tirade against the employer is well placed.
No one on FOX acts alone on big stories.
The Murdoch owned FOX network ran a story recently, about the Murdoch owned Wall Street Journal story
about the Murdoch owned NY POst story about whether lesbians play softball and therefore Kagan is a lesbian.
The Wall Street Journal included the photo from the NY POst.
Fox ran the story using the photo, the WSJ story and the NY post story all balled up on one propaganda hit piece.

Rex, one day this earth will shake us human beings off like a bad case of fleas. Not to worry.

What's the problem? He's asking for a little perspective and some calm rational thinking instead of the doomsday prognastications that are being thrown out there by every academic lightweight that is trying to make a name for themselves.
I tend to agree with him. So far, nothing that has been predicted by the chicken littles has come true. And, the coast guard came out and said the oil is beginning to break up, and wouldn't be as bad as everyone feared. That's good news.

I will be completely happy if this thing turns out to be not as bad as everyone thinks. My son, on the other hand, who is working to help clean up this mess, will be disappointed and probably unemployed.
I think people need to focus on scientific evidence and facts rather than the hysteria, the scope of the spill, etc. The loss of the 11 workers is truly tragic. The fishermen and shrimpers are being devastated economically. Huge areas of fishing areas are being shut down due to the pressence of oil, regardless of much or little. Are scientific experiments being conducted on the wildlife that indicates the oil is actually being inegested? How are these species impacted if they do ingest the oil? I think many are focusing on the the large amount of oil and making huge specualtive guesses on the impacts without all the facts.
There are numerous camera crews and resources looking for impacted birds. If a few birds need some pepto bismol, big freaking deal. After they wash them off with dawn and give them a shot of pepto, someone is putting them on a plane and releasing them somewhere in Florida! Really? For a goddamn bird? The reaction and hysteria may prove to be warranted, I just don't think all the facts are in yet.

Did you read the article?
"I think it has the potential to be catastrophic, and we need to plan that way," he said.
"I am going to act as if it is, until this thing is done, and we all should," Allen added.
The guy interviewed in the article is saying that we should all be acting and responding as if it is a catastrophic spill. This doesn't exactly jive with your argument.
Not sure what you mean exactly by "academic lightweight", but whatever.

Seriously?
Your son will be disappointed?

Watching the video, I think what is going to hurt the industry more than anything is this lame arse crap about "natural seepage". I think to the vast majority of Americans it sounds like an excuse - it's not that bad, happens naturally all the time. What's happening now is not natural and is not anything like a natural seepage. Also, it almost seems as if a lobbyist memo has been fed to the conservative media as I have now seen posts of this coming from Rush and Fox News and being posted by every "conservative" poster on TD.
For the record, I'm in the industry, been in for my entire career. I love it and I don't want to see an over reaction. However, people frick up and we can protect the industry by having those responsible step up and not by everyone circling wagons and defending bad operators like BP.

The problem with arguing with liberals is that if you try to point out that jumping off of a cliff is not necessary because A, B, and C, they take your point, magnify it by 1000x, put words in your mouth, call you stupid for the words that they put in your mouth and then call you a racist/sexist/corporate pig, whichever is more suitable to their argument.
Tempering concerns by bringing facts to the table is never an option.

Yes I did read the article. Yes, he is going to treat it as if it was worse than it is (called covering your arse), but he also said (point of article here)that the spill was breaking up and the impact doesn't look like it will be as bad as everyone feared. The context of the article completely went over your head, apparently.
And "academic lightweight" may have been a poor choice of words, how about "academic dishonests". They are making claims without all the facts. They have no way of knowing the amount of oil being released because of the many unknown variables not given to them. They are just trying to get their name out there.

Why in the name of all that is holy do all of you think you are more informed than anyone else on this subject?
Facts:
1) No one is sure how bad it is
2) The persons that have the best idea are under heavy restrictions on what they can and can't say. It kills me every time I come on this board not to be able to say things that I know.
3) Regarding the previous statement, I'm just a peon in the grand scheme of things, but I know what the guys who are in the know about this were saying with body language, as of a couple of weeks ago. Things may have changed, but I promise you, no one has any room to call someone a liar on this matter, unless that person is saying that they know exactly what will happen (IE: you).

I agree with you. That's why I have a problem with all these people coming out and calling BP liars about the amount of oil being released when they don't have the facts. And the media and the public are running with those statements and panicking over something that may not be as bad.
I don't know all the facts, but I'm not yelling the sky is falling just yet, and neither should others.
