I know this is going to sound like a stupid question at first glance but there's a reason I ask it.

Several years ago I had an oil leak in my front yard due to a leaking line from a well across the street from me. I called the state corporation commission and they sent out an investigator and I voiced my concerns over the pollution from it. He told me that it would probably help my yard because it was basically fertilizer. I told him I found that hard to believe but he was right-my grass flourished and continues to do so where the oil leaked.

Of course the spill was nothing like the one in the Gulf and there was no cleanup necessary. Now I know that much oil has some very dire consequences and I'm not naive enough to believe that it's not a bad thing. But considering what happened with my yard, could there possibly be any long term benefit to this as far as the growth of the vegetaion in the marshes?

I'll excuse the wiseasses ahead of time.

yeah, i can't explain this except for the idea thats its like deer hunters burning the marsh after the season (besides rabbit hunting reasons)

killing all the old grass allows new grass to come in thick and plentiful

this is all i got tho
