On the heels of the LOTR success how about Drizzt Do'Urden

Has anyone read R.A. Salvatore and not think Drizzt couldn't be a great movie series? There is more than enough content to make many movies, as much as I want them will the demand be there?

I read the books as kid. I'd watch it, but it doesn't have a big enough fanbase for the amount of money it would cost to do it right. The whole movie would probably be CGI.
I think Curt Shilling's (the pitcher) video game studio called 38 studios is making an MMO based on the books.

Tolkien is like Citizen Kane. He put all the techniques in place. Let's be honest the books were very boring at times. Peter Jackson transformed it to an amazing audio/visual spectacle to make it more palatable for mass audiences.
Salvatore is an amazing page-turning author. Much better story teller than JRRT, but Tolkien gets tons of my respect for having such a massive imagination in the first place.

You can't be serious. Peter Jackson didn't transform shite and Salvatore is good at what he does but really come on.

those books are not suited to the current generation of readers. jackson exploited only the action moments and character developments. if he wouldve adapted every part of the book it wouldve been a tiresome, plodding set of movies.

That's one of the main reasons. Almost everyone has heard of LOTR, only fans of Drizzt have heard of him. I love the Drizzt character and he is probably the coolest one out there but he is for fantasy fans and Joe off the street probably won't agree.

Salvatore is working with them on creating the storyline but I don't think it's based on Drizzt. Not much is known about it right now, the code name of it is Copernicus. 38 Studios does have a RPG coming out before the MMO.

If you aren't a fantasy reader, you may not know Salvatore and you definitely won't know about the Drizzt line of books.
For the uninitiated, R.A. Salvatore is a NYT best-selling author whose most notable writings have been about a dark elf named Drizzt Do'Urden.
While Tolkien did indeed create the genre (even going so far as to actually CREATE LANGUAGES for his dwarves adn elves), there are other writers that I would put before him in pacing. Salvatore is definitely one of them.
As to the movie... it would definitely have to be more along the lines of the Harry Potter series of films rather than a LOTR trilogy. There's simply far too much intrinsic back story and impotant secondary characters for just 3 movies.

Which series do you start with? The backstory of Drizzt? Icewind Dale series? Do you combine each series into a really long movie? I think that is one of the issues you face with his character and making movies about him.

I think you would start with the Icewind Dale trilogy, then maybe go back to the Dark Elf trilogy as a pequel (maybe combine it into one movie). From there the story could proceed chronologically, but I'm not sure how far it should go. Do you really need the Legacy books? How many ovies would the Path of Darkness books take? How in-depth do you get into the whole Bregan D'Aerthe thing? Or Wulfgar's disappearance? Like I said, there's sooooo much.
