For what Miles gets paid, no one better take over clock management. He doesnt call plays, so he needs to worry about the damn clock.

that's what i'm hearing over hear in Alabama.

gonzales will be in charge of a lot and the players can't wait to get in a game with him. clock management has been stressed all summer and spring. they have done most playcalling from the sidelines in practices and scrimmages to give a more game like atmosphere. they are confident it has made a difference.

And you have overwhelming evidence that he will be different?

I'm sure they have a GA dedicated to watching the clock and keeping the coaches aware of the clock at all times.

Miles appears to be very bad at it, so, if Gonzales is just average then we have an upgrade. Not saying miles is a bad head coach, but a clock manager he isn't.

The coaches and team has spent a lot of time addressing the time management issues of last year. Question for the board. Why last year and not the first 4 that Les was coach? The quarterback on the field should be the most aware of the clock, particularly in the last 2 minutes. Les was caught off guard because he assumed that a time out was called. Do you think that all of the past LSU quarterbacks were as unaware as of what to do in this situation? Last year was glaring at crucial times. Why only last year? And don't tell me that I am blaming the player, the player in question should be in tune with what needs to be done before it happens. As for as not having the field goal team ready to rush the field, who is the special teams coach? Shouldn't he have been aware and already had the players ready to run on the field? I have been at the level of superintendent and General Foreman on jobs, at those positions you rely on the lower supervision to handle their jobs. If I couldn't rely on these guys, I replaced them. Which Les has done. If he chooses to delegate certain responsibilities to different coaches, then it is the right thing to do. Most of the negative posts come from people who haven't reached a supervisory level.

I have absolutely no doubt that time and attention has been paid to the 2 minute drill in practices every year of Miles tenure.
What could be argued is that not enough time was paid last year. The closing drive of the Ole Miss game was poorly executed and there was clearly confusion and poor communication. Sometimes shite happens, and this particular time, it was a worse than usual screw-up, which has turned something that Miles has not been criticized for much into what is perceived as one of his greater weaknesses. It's almost like the old joke where a guy laments: "I built bridges, but am I known as Joe, the bridge builder? No. I've run my business well for 20 years, but am I known as Joe, the successful CEO? No. But I suck one cock..." The Ole Miss game is the blunder that will haunt Miles for a long damn time, whether his teams have historically been good in the 2 minute drill, or not.
So, bottom line, I don't think running an effective 2 minute drill is something necessarily new to Miles, but he and his staff are definitely paying a lot more attention to it now.
