Just get it over with and get an Allison...

All bs aside though, I've heard nothing but good about phoenix. Basically just a new paint job bass cat.

While I have never ridden in a Phoenix, I have heard good things about them.

Here is a little bit of very good advice no matter what you decide. Go out and run several different brands of boats before you buy. Dont take anybodys word for it. Most dealers will let you run some boats as a test and all have various locals on their "pro team" who can take you out for a ride in their boat. I used to give many test rides myself when I was on a "Pro Team". I suggest that you ride in Phoenix, Ranger, Skeeter, Bass Cat, Triton , of comparable lengths and HP and pick the one you like the best. Also be sure you get behind the wheel and drive it yourself. Evaluate the handling at high speed, how easily it turns, and its ride in relatively rough water.

Todays boats all look pretty and go fast. It is the other details that you need to look closely at. Another pet peeve of mine is to have storage boxes that it will not rain in. Nothing is more frustrating than going fishing in the rain and having to take out and dry all of the items in the storage compartments. Not all boats have this feature.

Good luck.

I saw the Phoenix boats at the Oilman's bass tournament at Toledo Bend last year and they looked very clean. I know a few pros are running this boat and it appears to be making a strong push in the market.

I've heard good things about phoenix, but for the money, I'd get a cat. Bass Cat owners r like a cult. I don't know anyone who's own one that would buy anything else.

I am one. While I think Bass Cat is an excellent boat, probably in the top 3, I do prefer Ranger having owned both.

I own a Triton TR21 so naturally I am gonna say Triton. I have road in many different boats, like Jimbeaux said go ride in them and look them over before you buy. The biggest selling point I was looking for at the time was a smooth ride in rough water since I was fishing TB and Sam Rayburn alot back then.

I personally don't the Rangers my buddy bought a 19' last year and I asn't very impressed it. The ride was not good at all but I am used to riding in a smooth 21' boat. The price tag to me was too high for the amount of boat he got.

I did some test rides in the new Skeeters last year and have to say I was impressed with the ride and the features. The price tag though was way out of my league but it has been 10+ years since I bought mine.

Basscat is one of the top of the line boats they are not fast but smooth and dry rides.

I enjoyed fiberglass bass boats years ago. But today, I think my next boat will be all aluminum. I'm thinking custom built 20' from www.hankos.com

Good luck on your search.

Offshoretrash,

you cant compare the ride of a 19 ft boat with a 21 ft boat. Not comparable. I recently owned a 520 Ranger (21 ft) and also regularly fish with a partner that has a TR21 and can assure you the Ranger is a better rough water ride. In fact, after fishing in my 520, my partner has now sold his TR21 and bought a 520 Ranger (2 weeks ago).

Please dont get me wrong. I think the TR21 is a very good boat and I am not trashing it in the least bit, just making a point of you must compare apples with apples. I do agree that the price of a Ranger puts it out of the price range of many people but many times you can buy a 1 year old, slightly used promo boat and save a ton. That is what my buddy recently did.

Never owned one personally but i recently rode in a Triton and was highly impressed. Smooth, dry ride, fast as f*uck, and extremely maneuverable. The turning radius on this thing at 60+ mph is unreal.

I'm pretty sure you would die in my boat if you tried any type of turn over 40

ETA: It is a top-of-the line 1983 model cajun performance 15 footer though...

I can turn mine doing mid 60s and probably higher by myself. I have a lot of freinds that won't ride with me but my nephew loves it! They do handle very good!

Jim I know you can't compare them but we weren't in that rough of water and I was getting beat to death if I can't do 70 mph in a 2 ft chop then I don't want that boat.

I got another buddy that has a 20' Triton that rides like shite but it's a different hull design than mine. He also has a 225 but I can out run him.

Good rule of thumb is to never by a new boat. Buy one that is a year or 2 old. Let someone else pay the depreciation and taxes.

You will save yourself a lot of money buying used.
Only have to pay taxes on the value of trailer. Go on boattrader.com

also here is a good website for used bass boats.
