Breaking down Oregon

After watching every offensive highlight for this past season, a couple of things stand out. 1. the loss of Cliff Harris is a big deal. He was a play maker on defense. He had big plays in every game. But the biggest thing might be his punt returns. It will be close to what LSU will have to do in replacing PP7. They do have a player who was a freshman last year named Josh Huff who will step in as a punt returner and he is a gifted athlete with great speed. What they want have is their top 2 receivers in Davis and Maehl. They have a great tight end named Paulson who beats linebackers over the middle. And a tall receiver named Tuinei who will catch a lot of balls but they will miss the other 2 mightily. Kenyon Barner and L. James make a dynamic pair in the backfield and again Josh Huff is a very versitile receiver at the wing. Offensively, Oregon will still be very strong because they are well coached and attack the other team by spreading them out. Our corners will be very busy. And by the way, their defense is tough and fast. People saying that LSU will walk over this team are crazy.

This could be huge considering we will have a new punter.

1. Kenjon Barner returned kicks until he got hurt. He will probably return kicks again this year. and don't worry about punts. Our. ST will once again reduce kicks to fair catches.
2. They lose the entire left side of the O line. This is gonna play a huge factor come sept 3rd.
3. How do you watch every offensive highlight, but come up with their defense is tough?

our offense is bigger than them, tougher than them and faster than them. we will wear them down.

Oregon is going to have a stout front 7. Defense will be showcased in this game.

I suppose there are numbskull fans for every team but I haven't personally spoken to a single Tiger fan(And I literally work with hundreds of them) who say LSU will blow the Ducks out. On the other hand, I have conversed with a few Duck fans online who are, shall we say, a bit overconfident. This should be a great game but I'll wager that when Coach Kelly and his staff break down the pre-game film with their team, more than a few of the Ducks will take notice of the speed and athleticism they will face on both sides of the ball.

only lsu's defense, not yours. get over it. your team doesn't even have the same size rb's as us to practice against. your defense is going to wear down.

Go look up Tra Carson. He'll be the scout RB for us.

Just so it don't sound Homer, I have always liked Oregon , but LSUs D-Line will have a huge impact on the out come of this game, more so than any other part of the team.
Hell we went 11-2 with no QB last year against SEC powerhouse defenses, so we can squeeze points out a dead offense. the 2 teams we lost to were high scoring offenses and we did hold them well below their season average. Even though the threw some yards on the stat sheet. Bend, don't break defense I guess?!

rickyh, Very good writeup! I am very surprised a LSU fan(who is not on LSU's coaching staff) would take all the time to study their opponent like that. Again, very good report.
Ya, many teams do not know just how physical we are until they study us or play us. Just by reputation all they think of is our Offense. We have never had a Defense in a long while that made headlines. But your right. We like to hit and hit hard on D. I have read where other coaches have said we were the most physical team they played. Anyways, good writeup.
Our line may be an issue though. We lost 3 starters but really its more like losing 2 as 1 guys started some and had tons of experience. I have all confidence that we will gel on O-line. But the question is when? By the first game? We shall see. And WR's. Who will step up there? And will that area too take time? Time will tell. I expect us to be a little weak the first 2-4 games in those departments if you ask me.
But on Defense. Yes we lost tons. However we regularly rotated in 25 total guys who got tons of playing time last year. So I am not worried at all with our D. We are deep there.

Then you are not on here very much. That thought was VERY prevalent for the last couple of months on here from MANY LSU posters. However the last few weeks I have not seen very much of it.

When I saw your George Jefferson Pic and read your comment with you just laughing I thought you must of been a new guy as I had not seen that pic before for a user. I scrolled through it again and caught your user name. That says it all right there. You have like a PHD in bashing Oregon, go figure...
Your one, if not thee one, of the top guys who I cannot wait to hear pathetic excuses start flying out of you if we win. Each fan base has a guy with compulsive envy which causes one to bash anything about that team. You just happen to be the token one for LSU.

I have a PH.D in not bowing down and sucking Oregon's dick FWIW.
You actually think the OP broke down and actually studied the film?
First of all, he said he watched the offensive highlights, but then commented on the defense
the same defense that lost 6 of the front 7, and now both corners(1 you should get back) and the projected starter at MLB. Your defense shouldn't even be commented on as they have been GUTTED.

Also keep in mind, although it is not 15 second down time, LSU also has a hurry up offense that would not allow Oregon to rotate and usually does pretty well because it mostly scripted before the gsme

I sure hope Les Miles and your whole team takes your attitude and thinks we will not have a solid Defense for them to worry about.
Apparently in all your time visiting Oregon blogs you have not been paying much attention. Our Defense this year is our very last concern. We have never been more happy about our Defense going into a new season this time of year.
Perhaps your a video kind of guy and need to re-watch the ESPN Round-table on Oregon and hear them audibly where ESPN admits we had 25, count that 25 total guys who played tons for us last year on regular rotations. ESPN-UO

25 huh? Anyone want to make a wild guess how many LSU played last year?
