Yeah, I read about that on thehulltruth. Crazy. I guess you just assume that everything will go smoothly when you pay thousands for a charter, but you just never know.
I just watched the video of that other boat with the divers sinking on it the other day too. Scary stuff, glad everyone was OK on both boats.

We got a trip schedule with him in October. Hope everyone is ok and Capt. Howard can get back to doing what he loves.

Raw power of mother nature. That's gotta b hard as a captain to lose your baby like that. Glad everyone was rescue alright.
to coast guard for keeping our waters safe. How does this exactly happen? How were the seas this morning?

According to people on the hulltruth. It was raining hard and he hit a wellhead that is barely above water.

I was thinking they were 100+ miles out. Did anyone mention anything about his distance when this happened?
Posted on 7/12/11 at 9:38 pm to PapaPogey

if you know of any of these, report them to the USCG.........they should be equiped with collision avoidance equipment.

Man that sucks. Hopefully the group that was with him understands the circumstances and aren't dicks about it. What kind of insurance do these charter captains have for accidents like this?
Posted on 7/12/11 at 10:38 pm to arowana
do charter boats normally operate outside the channel?
edit: it seems it was offshore a bit, but aren't those wells marked on charts?

Dam. Just shows accidents can happen to anyone.
He had such a nice boat too. If I'm not mistaken, he just got it fixed. I had been seeing it in Des Allamands for a while

My first attempt at trying to upload a picture, not sure it will work. I have two other images of the Looney Tuna after the incident that I can also try. My understanding is that they hit a well head outside of the pass and river pilots were first boat on scene.
