...they'd already be adding schools. They would have started the process last year, or done their best to keep Colorado and Nebraska from leaving.

Its absurd hearing about the Big 12 "targeting BYU as a replacement for A&M". Really? So if, and only if A&M leaves, they'll approach BYU?

This makes zero sense to me.

Texas and OU want a 10-team league, I guess. I know Stoops spoke several times about not wanting a CCG, but is this what is driving the Big 12? Are they intentionally making the league weaker??

They've already said as much

There's no real reason to rush into anything considering A&M can't officially leave until the 2012 season

BYU is a great replacement. Both have 1 national title but BYU's is in the modern era of college football (A&M won their title 3 years before Texas had its first paid coach). BYU has a global following because of its religious affiliations and has its own network so it sees eye to eye with Texas on some key issues.

Also, it sounds like the Big 12 is going to move to add 3 teams at the least and to come back with a conference title game.

As for your bewilderment that the Big 12 hasn't already started adding schools.....it doesn't make sense until A&M officially does their thing for many reasons.

Besides that, none of us have any idea of what is going on behind the scenes. They may well have verbal agreements from one or more schools about joining the conference.

What I don't understand is why they didn't move to add teams last offseason, or continuously kept working on it to make it a 12 team league. Why not try to add BYU and Pitt before this summer and make it a 12 team league again? I don't understand why their plan was to eliminate the CCG and get smaller when 2 other conferences were adding a CCG. Beebe is terrible.

Dr. Drunknstein, this blatant lie makes me wonder how much you have lied in your other posts?

I think Bevo and Boomer Sooner would like to return to the something like OK and the Seven Dwarfs. The Red River Rivalry (formerly Shootout) would be the de facto CCG. With a ten-team league, UT and OU could schedule some big dollar out of conference games for revenue, publicity, and BCS standings, without a tough 13th game heading into the BCS.

We didn't win a title in 1891, our first game was in 1894.

Heck, I'll question this statement too. What are those many reasons? If they are pursuing BYU and ND, both currently independent, its not like they have to notify their conference.

BYU will turn down BIG12-3. So the options are Rice, Houston, and SMU.

The BIG 12 is over. It might make it a couple more seasons, but I doubt it makes it past June 30, 2012,

I've been lurking here since last year when all the Cam Newton stuff was going around. This post has driven me to join.

Words cannot describe how ignorant of your own program you must be to have popped off such an idiotic statement. You have two Texas (the entire state, not just the school) coaching legends that came before A&M won their only (claimed) title. You should know who they are just being a fan of sports in the state of Texas, let alone as a Horns fan that acts to be so in the know of of everything.

I can see BYU. I'm sure they wouldn't mind getting into an AQ conference.

But Pitt is a terrible geographic fit. The XII-3 has nobody else east of the Mississippi River. Air Force would be a better fit geographically. They'd restore the Colorado market and serve as a travel partner for BYU.

Once Pac grabs the only 2 decent programs in the Big 12 (OU & OSU), the Big 12 will either fold or be watered down to a WAC-ish conference.

Yes. The idea is then they can both go 11-0 in the other games and play each other for all the marbles. Winner goes to the BCSCG and loser goes to the Fiesta.
