VT best fit for SEC

Forgive if Nazis, but to me Virginia Tech, by far, is the best fit when it comes to what they bring to table overall. On top of athletics and good alumni fanbase and tradition, it is a very solid academic institution. Much better than the likes of the other 14th member options: WVU, TCU, SoFla, Clemson.
Its also one of the newest members of the ACC, so they do not have any solid roots to the conference.
Why isn't the SEC going after the Hokies?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even though they are the newest addition to the ACC, do they not still have the $20m buyout? I think that's the main thing keeping the SEC from pursuing ANY teams from the ACC right now.

technically, the SEC isn't pursuing any teams. The teams apply the SEC
of course there's a lot of backroom dealing but that's how it "plays out"
And if they want into the SEC badly enough, they'll pay the $20 million.

In addition to that, if the SEC finds themselves an attraction application (from FSU or VT), then the SEC might agree to pay some or half of the $20m.

I don't know why people act like the $20 million buyout is an absolute deal breaker. TAMU's was/is going to range from 12-15 million. I find it hard to believe that an extra 5-8 million would prevent the SEC from accepting a school that it wants. Or prevent the school from being able to come up with an extra bit of money from boosters who don't want their football program stuck in a basketball conference.
Also, all board votes are "unanimous" for the most part. There's often an informal vote, followed by a unanimous formal vote. Doesn't mean that some didn't oppose it or raise objections. Doesn't mean they did either. It's just not as concrete as some people are making it out to be.

Slive is doing a bunch of maneuvering to avoid the legal ramifications that Baylor and their minions would try to bring onto to the SEC. If money is not an issue then Slive would've just brought in A&M unconditionally since they are more attractive than VT or FSU. This isn't the NFL. $20 million is still a lot of money in college athletics.

$20 million buy-out unanimously approved by ACC presidents.
Oh, now I understand...

virginia tech is the perfect sec school in everything but name - powerful academics, great athletics, passionate fans, incredible military history and traditions, gorgeous campus, beautiful location, wealthy alums, huge political clout

Agree completely
besides, i just had a dream about it. i was watching tv and they had just announced VT was the newest member of the SEC. so it's like a done deal imo

Why would VT want to go to getting beat up instead of doing the beating?
Also, the UVA-VT dynamic can't be discounted.

VA Tech is perfect, along with NC State, West Virginia, and A&M. These schools maintain the cultural identity of the SEC, open up new markets, and prevents us from watering down our product. I know alumni from each of these schools, and all would be at home in this conference with little chance of the schools having wandering eyes down the road. Though I'd prefer to stay at 13, this would look pretty damn good:
East:
West Virginia
VA Tech
Kentucky
Tennessee
South Carolina
NC State
Georgia
Florida
West:
Auburn
Alabama
Vanderbilt
Ole Miss
Miss. State
LSU
A&M
Arkansas

A pod system setup like this:

Miss. State

Adding Virginia Tech wouldn't get us the DC market.
New York City is closer to DC than Blacksburg, VA.
ETA: It's not going to be Virginia Tech. They have their own super conference forming in the ACC. Why would they leave?
West Virginia seems like a very likely candidate as of now. They need somewhere to go. They won't end up on the outside looking in when it comes to these super conferences.

It's not about Donald Trump posting on the rant. It's about the fact that TAMU was going to have to pay 15million, and that's not a deal breaker. But 20 million. NO WAY!
It's idiotic to think $5 million would stop a program or the SEC from getting who they want. This is easily recovered by the school and/or conference through a plethora of ways. ACC schools may be out for other reasons (politics, happy in conference), but the increased buyout is only a slight deterrent.

you are obsesses with the amount, but thats not the point.
why would universities unanimously vote to raise the exit fee if any had inclination towards leaving? more importantly the one acc school thrown about the most on here, fsu, LED THE CHARGE to increase it.
its about intentions not dollars in this case. it was a show of solidarity. the acc is not some second tier conference that will be raided at will, its a big dog thats doing the raiding.

VT also has a very respectable Architecture Consortium/Urban Planning school satellite campus in Old Town Alexandria (adjacent to DC). I actually attended it in an exchange program during my final year at LSU.
Out of all the schools the SEC is considering, VT should be #1.
