This is likely a significant amount. Base salaries for coaches are often lower than you would imagine.

Probably not a lot but they have boosters kicking in serious money (by ASU standards). Freeze made over $200K, and all reports have been that Malzahn will be paid significantly more than that. The linked article even states:

ASU did not provide an estimate or guarantee on the value of the media shows, camps or clinics, so the total value of the contract couldn’t be determined from the letter of agreement.

Do you really believe this? Do you realize that in this year's computer rankings, Arkansas St. was ranked #36? This was higher than the likes of Miss. St., Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio St. Not only that, but they will return many starters. He will very definitely win at Arkie St.

Because computer rankings are always accurate...

Honestly would you pick Ark. State to beat ANY of those teams you just listed...

I'd put UNC as a maybe and UF on their worst day but otherwise not even close.

I'm not arguing he won't win some but lets be real here... its a step down and there's no way to spin it otherwise. It still may be the RIGHT move for him given how every major program is now gunshy on hiring a largely unproven coordinator. He has Muschamp to thank for that one...

Computer rankings are more accurate than human polls as it takes out people's biases-like yours for example.

By the way, Arkansas St was ranked even HIGHER in the last AP poll. So yes, apparently everyone but you believes they could beat those teams. LINK

Because you obviously don't. Did you know sabans base salary is 225k? Every coachs base is minimal.

It's a dead end job for him. Step backward from his present job. A few decent years at Auburn and his stock would have returned to somewhat respectable again.
