Is this FINALLY the lesson that we can't play super conservative on O?

since 2005 Miles has had a major problem in playing far too conservatively on offense, and it reared its ugly head last night in horrific fashion. Miles wants to play tight, keep it close, and rely on outlier plays (punt/kick returns, defensive TDs, etc) to give the spark to win
i really thought that this year was the turning point. in the first half of the year, we can out aggressively and tried to destroy teams early and then run them into submission in the 2nd half
once we faced bama, that all changed. in the game we got scared, and we never came out of that shell. UGA embarrassed our offense (especially in the first half. we only had 237 yards in the game and 30 passing)
this leads up to the national title game where our offense is absolutely inept, uncreative, conservative, and miles ends up giving up and quitting. was that the wake up call for les?
with mettenberger and our RBs coming back, there is no excuse next year. we have a QB with JR-like potential. we don't need to run an air raid spread (in fact i hope we don't), but we can reasonably expect 3000 passing yards without even getting too greedy

Nah, I heard we were going to run the triple option next year.

Not entirely...

I hope he finds a top shelf OC and leave him alone. Whether he comes from the current staff, or not, I don't care.

It's actually sort of the first time he's done so in a bowl game.

I'll take the under against anyone who is interested in betting.

We weren't conservative vs UGA. Lots of early pass attempts, just terrible execution.

You can play super conservative when you're the superior team and you know the defense is going to get some turnovers for you.
Its like posting up in basketball. Kobe can pist up all day on Steve Nash in a 1-on1 game. no need for anything flashy but if he were playing Dwight howard then posting up would guarantee a loss.
You can't use that strategy as the end-all solution.
Last time, Bamer played against the rush and the vertical pass which is all Lee's offense had. this time they played against the rush and the edges which is all we had.

Yeah, we're too conservative on offense. But last night that wasn't the problem. Last night I don't know what we were on offense. Bubble screens? 4 yard slants? Fullback dive to JC Copeland? The most poorly run speed options I have ever seen? Just a random mishmash of stuff.
It's like they thought "ok Bama's seen our playbook, so they're prepared for it, so we have to make up a whole bunch of new plays that we've never used before and aren't really good at so we can confuse them?"
This is what really gets me though. What is LSU's signature play? The I formation toss power. Now I know you don't like it, but it is our signature play, and it's the one we've practiced more than any other. We ran it once last night, on a fourth and two late in the second half, and it gained six yards, and never used it again. If your offense isn't working you need to go back to your bread and butter, and we did not do that.

It is the first time he can really justify bashing Les this year. So I'm guessing a whole seasons worth.

The only solution: Les Miles needs to hire an OC that will OWN the offense. This shite has to stop. Miles is stubborn and I worry that he will make the correct move.

well PSU, but i'll throw that out b/c of the field
but i do agree. saban coming out loose and with a new gameplan while les coming out tight with a shite gameplan was the total 180 of what i expected (based on history)

Nope. He knows he can win 10 every year just by playing conservative, so that's what he will do.
I don't think he can change who he is. If he was somebody who thought that part of being a coach was getting the maximum production out of your players, he wouldn't need a lesson like this.

I suspect that the way we won the first Bama game gave Miles an excuse to revert to his default approach. It is as if he PLANNED to win the rematch with only defense and special teams. Very frustrating.
In 8 regulation quarters against Bama, LSU's offense accounted for 3 points. Ridiculous.

a few times, we took out a FB/WR and used TEs like wingbacks in a single back look. it was perplexing

i'd have taken a first half of TRYING to run, only to get stuffed, over the short pass bullshite we tried

i agree
what sucks worse is that bama obviously came out with a different gameplan, and we didn't adjust at all
