i just bought an 06 silverado crew cab z71 and was wondering what would be needed to fit 33 inch tires on stock rims? thanks in advance for any help!

Add a leaf in the back and level the front. Looks damn good on those trucks

Maybe just a leveling kit? I've heard of people cranking their torsion bars, but I would go with a kit instead.

What downshift said, but I don't think the leaf in the back is necessary for fitting them, but you'd probably want it if you haul/tow a lot.

Yea don't crank the torsion bars if you can help it. If you crank them enough to fit 33's, you'll end up eating up CV joints regularly. My buddy looked into it, and it wasn't worth it. If you do crank your torsion bars I wouldn't go more than 1.5", and with that you can fit 285 sized tires, like 32".

It isnt required, but i would have it. 33's look goofy with the small fender wells on chevy 1/2 tons. Nice to have when loading down the bed as well.

Since we are talking tires...
Can I put 285's on my 2500HD without doing any mods are will I have to do a couple things?

It doesnt matter if he cranks them or gets keys. The cv angles are the same for the same amount of lift no matter the meathod used unless he drops the diff, which is getting into full blown lift kits. I dont think a 1.5" crank will hurt anything as long as he doesnt raw dog it.
I actually recommend looking into a rough country 3" suspension lift. Maintains the stock axle geometry and cost about $600.

the only thing i tow is a 16ft aluminum bass boat and im eventually going to lift it 6" on 35s but for the time being i just want to fit 33s without rubbing and ive heard bad things about cranking torsion bars, anybody know any good local shops? and i was thinking about going with bilstein 5100 shocks also

And when you put any kind of weight on a trailer and hook it up the headlights point at the sky without it.
Instead of adding a leaf, I built 1.5" blocks and put them in the rear on my F150. Of course a couple years later I saw they were selling them all over the internet for $50, but at the time I couldn't find them anywhere. I just got stock u bolts from someone who put a 6" lift on a 4x4 (the 4x4's come with a block and longer bolts from the factory, but the dude said his blocks had been removed by the person he bought the truck from for some reason)

What year?
285/75/r16's fit on a 2002 body style with a 1.25" torsion bar crank. 2011 body styles will take some mods.

Torsion bars or coils up front?
Theyre harder to clear on the new body style trucks. 285/75/r16's are 33.33x10.3 if i remember correctly.

Like downshift said, without spending a nice chunk of change on a legit lift kit the torsion keys and whatnot they sell to level them will all do the same thing to the cv angles. I'd probably look at just cranking them or getting torsion keys for 1.5" and fitting the biggest size you can fit, probably around 32" IIRC. You can techincally fit 33's doing that, but they will rub on turns.

how much trimming do you believe would be needed?

Torsion keys preserve the factory ride for the most part because the torsion bar stays at the same pre-load as factory. It will ride rougher if its just cranked.

Should clear with a mild torsion bar crank on that truck. A tire shop should be able to tell you for sure. I wouldnt go past 1.5" up though. You'll need a front end alignment after as well.

No idea, but I do know that it is possible, because I've seen one leveled 1.5" with torsion keys and 33's and he swore it doesn't rub...he had to have trimmed something though.

I put 33.5's on my 07 with only a lift and level.
