Stephen Rivers...why no love?

After Mett, it seems like everyone just wants to skip over Rivers and move right on to Bolden/Randall. Miles always mentions Rivers when talking about backups.
I'm just wondering why the majority of the Rant doesn't feel like he's a viable backup...OTHER than the no experience factor.

I don't get this impression at all.

Glad to hear that boys. I was a fan of us signing this guy and I think if he got a little experience and put on some weight, he could really set himself up well to be a 2 (possibly 3) year starter

This, I think everyone thinks Miles will not won't to throw him in the gauntlet too soon, so the buzz is a little tampered based on the past. Bringing Bolden in just reaffirms this IMO. If Bolden wasn't here, I think you'd see more interest in his development, but right now, its a wait and see....

Bc no one knows much about him?

The way I look at it, all 3 backups are inexperienced. Bolden is learning a completely new system. Not to mention I'm sure Krags is going to try and work out some of his issues that he had in Happy Valley, so he's going to have to backtrack a little in order to move forward

I'm just saying that where Rivers is now, barring any emergency situation, his development is right on course

Are you sure you read this board?

More than I probably should. Just trying to defy the atmosphere and have an intelligent convo regarding our most ready backup

To me, it seems there's a reason we went after Bolden. That reason being the coaches not thinking Rivers is ready

I think he's going to be one heck of a good Qb. He looked good, but inconsistant in the spring game, against the best secondary in the nation no less, with the second team offense.

What about liggins not making it to campus and Les's preference for having 5 QBs on the roster? Let's just put it this way. If liggins was on campus bolden would not be. Bolden being here is not an indictment of rivers's ability.

I agree that most here seem to be harsh on Rivers. It all boils down to the situation. Mett could go pro so regardless of whether he does or not is not relevant.... you must prepare for him going pro.
So Miles is not over confident in BOTH Rivers and Randall. Unless he is super confident in BOTH he will need a back up for... lets say Rivers next year. Without Bolden we don't have one.
It will be interesting to see if Bolden is redshirted or not! I am guessing he will be if everything goes as planned.

I think Stephen is coming along just great.

How could you possibly know this unless you're on the staff?
Miles is NEVER going to let another season come down to a freshman under center - even if it's a redshirt freshman. Our program should have enough depth to be able to run a Junior out there, even as a #2.
The man will not be doomed to repeat history.
