If Darcy Malone signs to go along w/the other four guys we've signed(Martin, Quarterman, Odo and Mickey), does that make us over the limit for scholarships? I counted 8 returnees next year(including JOB III) and thought 13 schollys were the limit. I saw in The Advocate this morning(https://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/5484782-123/lsus-johnny-jones-unsure-if)]LINK[/link] Matt Harris mention that signing Malone would make us over the limt.

Considering that Trent Johnson usually only went to battle with 8 scholarship players, the NCAA is allowing us an extra scholarship for the next 2 years.

I am not the brightest but doesn't

8 (returning) plus
4 (already signed) plus
1 (malone) equal
13 which you stated is the limit

Like I said, I have not done research. I am assuming what your are saying is correct. This is just my quick math

Nice.

ETA: So it looks like we can add one more, as well.

I'm not sure where you going with this. Now, LSU does have too many commits because they can only take Deng Deng or Darcy Malone.

oauron, is there any merit to the extra scholarship from the NCAA? I'd rather have Darcy FWIW.

That was just a sarcastic dig at TJ.

Absolutely none.

I think Deng Deng would be the replacement if JOB goes pro (or if anyone else goes pro). Although, we may just leave the spot open considering there are two good PFs (Craig Victor and Mike Thomas) in the 2014 that LSU is after.

The biggest issue with LSU and their recruiting class is that Deng Deng, an Australian JUCO kid had committed, but hasnt made grades yet. People are expecting him to not be part of the class.

Currently, LSU would have the maximum 13 players if there is no attrition and the current class make it to school. All 5 are suppose to clear academically and be on campus in June.

Oh. Sarcasm meter must be broken today, I just assumed basketball schollys worked like football. My bad.

I'd be happy with either, but Deng Deng would make me more uneasy because he seems more raw/unproven.

Again, I think that if JOB leaves, then I don't think LSU can make a deep run. So, I would leave the scholarship open for next year in hopes of filling it with a non-Juco or more promising player. That said, maybe Deng is really improving and the staff thinks he can be a valuable asset. Who knows. It's hard to get info on a lot of these JuCo guys.
