Instant Analysis: LSU vs. TCU

Arlington, TX - A sweaty, roiled Gary Patterson saw his team fall 37-27 to LSU, with 14 of TCU's points gifted via a special teams blunder and a fumble, two rare occurrences for Les Miles-coached teams. Despite their self-infliction, LSU prevailed over the ranked and respected Horned Frogs, looking more like a top five team with tremendous upside than a questionable top fifteen team.
The Tigers' performance was somewhat of a reversal of last year's theme, in that the offense made big play after big play to answer every time TCU scored and made things competitive.
Zach Mettenberger looks the part of the improved senior leader, throwing a much crisper pass. His pocket presence and footwork are also noticeably better, along with his massive offensive line, and the emergence of a talented fourth-string, change-of-pace running back, Terrence Magee, who gives the Tigers yet another valuable weapon. Overall, Cam Cameron seems to have paid off in spades. LSU's passing game has never looked this smooth. Beckham and Landry are prolific studs.
The young defense, which played well as a group, held the Frogs to just 250 total yards. It was a few plays away from total domination, as there were missed assignments, poor tackling and bad angles--all which can be corrected with John Chavis coaching.
THE SKINNY: Without their best player the Tigers performed well on both sides of the ball and in the placekicking game in a victorious first effort. While there is room for fundamental improvement and in the special teams, particularly on kickoffs and punting, this looks to be another promising LSU Tiger team under Les Miles--one certainly capable of winning championships. Up next: UAB in Death Valley at 6:00 p.m. Saturday.

Good analysis though! Magee was solid surprise to most but not us in the know.

Liked. The comment about 'instant' is kinda funny, though.
Hoping you have summary for UAB, I mean besides the obligatory lookalike thread(which I am still waiting for) that should appear soon.
