Why aren't UCLA and Cal good coaching jobs in college football?

Neither school gives a shite about football (from administrators down to students). Elements of Cal especially have been openly antagonistic towards it's revenue sports programs. A former Cal Chancellor even said he hoped they never won more than six games a year, lest their reputation as an academic institution be sullied. There are also like 6 pro teams within an hour drive of each school, so Joe Six Pack working at 7-11 isn't likely to take interest in what amounts to a minor league team. On top of all this, both are hyper selective schools with which locals share ZERO affinity, because neither they or anyone they know attended or has a chance of attending either; California has 36 million residents, and cal has 25,000 undergrads.

Well that is an interesting question because you really have to look into the intricacies of how each program wants to be seen in the NCAA world. Based on that I'd say post on the right board and go frick yourself.

This may be true for football, but if UCLA ever becomes relevant again in basketball there would be huge local support.
