It's not like Manning had to play the entire game to try and break this record. He broke it by halftime and sat out the entire second half of the game. I am quite certain they were aware of the possibility of stat adjustments. One drive in the second half was all it would take to definitively secure the record. Manning did not care. He basically said he did not care about the yards record, just the touchdown record. The passing yards record is almost a bad mark on the team because it indicates a one-dimensional offense constantly playing in close games or coming from behind.
