Doesn't the lsu rowing team practice there? They did many years ago when I did my stint at ej ourso.

As far as alligators, it's a body of water in Louisiana. It's always safe to assume there's a possibility of Mr alligator living in it. In reality, they will leave you alone as long as you leave them alone.

The best time to go is when the sorority houses are full.

No gators.

I take my kayak out after work sometimes just to paddle around and be on the water....all two feet of it. The lakes are still enjoyable and there's good scenery but the water quality is terrible,it's filled with trash, and the average depth is 2 feet. Shallower in some areas and very rarely it you hit a hole that's 3-4 feet. I bring a pole to get a line wet but I've caught 3 bass in the lsu lakes in the past 5 years so don't plan to catch anything that you couldn't with a cane pole and some night crawlers. Ive gone to some of the meetings where they discussed plans to revitalize the lakes and am really hoping this happens in the next ten years or so because there is a ton of potential.

The water is two feet deep and there's people everywhere. You probably won't be taken out by a killer gator in the lsu lakes.

Caught 14 one morning before work. Fishing is usually good Feb and March. Haven't fished there in a couple years.

How many is a couple years? I've covered those lakes pretty good and it seems about as dead as it can get for bass. Water has gotten really low and oxygen levels are ridiculous. If you know of a secret spot or something let me know because I've given up

Yea you'll be fine. There's a few areas on the edges where you'd probably get stuck but you will know when it gets to shallow.

I always did best by sorority row. Small spinner bait was most successful. Biggest one was around 4# if I remember. Keep in mind, some trips sucked, but I had several really good ones.

Well thanks for the info. The few I've caught in the past couple years have been in March on spinnerbaits as well. I live and work minutes from the lakes and it bums me out so much that they were catching state records in there 20 years ago and now it's practically dried up.

Yeah. They had some good fish in there. Once it gets hot, it's pretty much over there.

I've seen a couple small gators in there; biggest was about 4ft. Of course, that was a couple years ago, so it may be much bigger now! Just don't fall out...

The whole lake is shallow and fishing can be tough, but I've caught some bass on the fly rod using floating flies (parachute adams, spiders) Nothing huge, but between 10-15"

I've kayaked out there a few times! Never used a life jacket or anything! You might see a few co-eds out there in kayaks or on paddle boards. I've always had a good time, but I would go in the fall or spring time!

I used to canoe/fish there years ago and it is fine for that.

I also did windsurfing/ sailboarding, which was kind of a mess. Not a lake you wand to fall into because the shallow bottom is mud and trash. This was in the late 80s; may be printing now....
