So I have a cable subscription and pay for HD programming. In my bedroom, I don't have a box and can only pick up the channels that come through in SD. Is there a box I can get that convert this? I know my cable company will rent one but if I can get one cheaper than what I'd be paying them with maybe a few extras then I'd take it.

i run this combo for my bedroom tv:
Cable card tuner
Nexus media player - was just on sale for $49
for one tv, it'll take 2 years to pay for itself. but with the tuner you could supply up to 3 tvs with HD channels (with additional media players). however, the more you add the shorter your payoff time is though due to cable boxes being a minimum $8/month. one cable card is $1.95/month.
