Why does Trump have a chance in NH?

Out of curiosity, what makes new hampshire and some of maine a possibility for republicans this year when traditionally new england is heavy democrat?

It's fairly conservative. It often goes Republican.

New Hampshire was traditionally a very libertarian state and they still are to some extent. They have no state income tax for example.
The problem is that the lack of a state income tax has drawn in a lot of people from Massachusetts who commute to Boston for work.
In regards to Maine-02, there's a non-religious, blue-collar white vote there that previous Republicans since Bush the elder haven't tapped into well. Trump has.
