This mindset starts at an early age, toddler age to be exact. I hate to use the "everyone gets a trophy" cliche but it fits here. Everyone is special, equal and wins at everything even if you contribute nothing to the team/group/society. Of course if you don't get what you want then throw a fit until someone comes to pacify you.
