Too many teams and no relegation system ruins it. Also with the small salaries of the players no big names come over.

The MLS TV deal sucks and the EPL has no alternatives when it's on TV.
City and Bourenmouth play today at like 1. What else is there to watch? Judge Judy?

And when it's on at 7am on weekends, unless you're watching cartoons with kids, you have it on.

MLS will a second tier to the major soccer leagues around the world for quite some time, and though it is not ideal, we should be okay with that. Slow growth is good growth and the league will grow more solidly when:

A) We make a deep run in the WC
&
B) There is a better TV deal.

No pro/rel and pay for play development are the two biggest things holding back the development of the game in the US. We will never fulfil our potential until those 2 things change.

Well for starters EPL has a better tv deal in the states than MLS.

It's not growing though except for the huge expansion fees they are getting.

Tv ratings are abysmal and attendance outside of a small handful of teams is poor.

Yeah because nobody watches

Nobody watches because the quality is poor

The quality is poor because teams don't have much incentive to improve.

Problem is as more people get exposed to the better leagues and learn about them before MLS, it can turn them off to liking MLS once they see some of the backwards shite it does.

That's always going to be an issue with a closed franchise model.

Sounds like they should consider changing their model

So here's the real question for this thread: if we go to pro/rel, will people google MLS more?

Well that's just not true. 14/20 teams averaged over 19k and the only one below 15k had 1/4 of their stadium closed for renovations.

I just enjoy the league for what it is.

People always want to judge it against top leagues bc it's American. Some of that is on Garber running his mouth.

Will it be a top five league with its current structure? No, but the best I can hope for is an exciting league that eventually turns out top talent that can be exported like Brazil and Argentina do.

Yea attendance is fine and on par or better than most leagues with level of play. But for now MLS has still and niche fan base.

The problem is grabbing casual viewers to grow fan bases.

Pro/rel is not a game changer for MLS interest.

I bet a lot more people will google MLS when Fort Wayne gets promoted to the top level! America is just like Europe 100 years ago so we should definitely follow their system no questions asked

Our national team has to start dominating for MLS to be a popular league in the United States. Which sucks, but at least its on the right track to do so.

It kinda seemed like cities with poor understanding or excitement of soccer got teams before cities who have had a long history of soccer got one.

I do. It's no worse than NBA or MLB teams.
