I say bad. Draft is loaded with CBs that will be good to great, some of which should be around pick 32.

Butler- I don't see him as a superstar whose worth is that much higher, if at all, as to what you could probably get #32 this year.

Plus he's 28.

You can get CB of equal value or close to it in the draft and the draftee is only 21-23 yrs of age on the cheap compared to what Bulter thinks he should be commanding salary wise.

Put me in the No category.

Personally I'd rather them not make the trade, but I won't lose my mind if they do.

All Pro CB?

True. In his prime but will probably fade in 3-4 years.

Whoa now. Not many CB's come out and are All Pro, especially at #32. Not saying it isn't possible, but not likely.

The thing I feel you missed in your list is that #32 overall will be cheaper than Butler, but what if we pass on a CB and go with Mahomes or Cook? How do you feel then?

His age gives me pause
His salary gives me pause
Our big FA signings recently give me pause
Trading with the Patriots gives me AIDS

Butler fits our "window" more so than any prospect at 32 or 42. The best case scenario for a pick at 32 is to have similar success as to what Butler has already shown during his past 3 years in the NFL. Butler is NFL proven and in his prime years that mesh better with Drew's possible last 3 years as a Saint. We're already a young team and have youthful prospects. We need a mix of proven talent ready to step on the field. Not time to develop.

You only go Mahomes if your 100% positive he is the heir apparent to Brees and there is no one you see in the next 2 draft classes at QB that projects at this point to be better than.

Otherwise you build the defense on this draft.

Draft is a crapshoot. We could draft a Butler, or we could draft another PRob.

Butler is a known commodity. I hate giving up 32, but 8/10 Butler will be better than whoever we pick there.

Yes I get the age and money side, but we NEED a proven corner, not some random chance rookie who may not even start. We have enough young guys with upside.

That said I'm not against getting Butler and drafting a CB for the future given that he could be an upgrade over Moore and all the young guys are coming off of injures.

But as a surefire #1 corner I'm not trusting a rookie to come in and be that, and that's what we need.

Well said and 100% agree. And we dang sure don't need a rookie punter messing our dream season up

Just a reminder, Patrick Robinson was picked 32nd overall in the draft we picked him. People way over value draft picks.

Butler is a guaranteed starter that immediately steps right into the starting line up and becomes the second best player on the defense. Who we pick at 32 even if it ends up working out long run probably won't even be a significant contributer for a year or two. You can't fill out your roster this way with vets because of the cost, but this year we will have a lot of other high draft picks to help fill out cheap depth. Butler would just help us quickly take a big step towards respectability on defense.

Which CBs in the draft are guaranteed to be as good as Butler?

true.... we might end up winning a super bowl again if we have the 29th ranked rookie punter kicking dog shite all over the field.

You could also get a complete bust.

I don't see it as being equal value at all. The value comes from the rookie contract vs whatever he demands.

We need to win now imo. Make the trade, and focus on improving the front 7 in the draft.

No one is ever 100% sure of anything, especially in the draft. The number 1 overall pick isn't close to 100%. According to your logic they would never be able to do anything given the fact that they definitely would never be 100%.

I totally agree with you, but this FO might not. I'm all for taking the sure thing over the unknown, which the draft definitely is.

#9 pick Dee Miliner, #12 DJ Hayden, #6 Claiborne, #33 Ras I Dowling, #29 Kyle Wilson, #32 Patrick Robinson, and many others will argue this point

It comes down to would I rather current version of Butler or years 1-3 of P-Rob (drafted with this exact pick). Give me Butler everytime!

One day people will understand that Cornerback is the hardest position to predict in the draft

All I know is trading with NE hasn't been on the positive side for the Saints. I guess that's something we all know.

No they won't. Everyone buys into the hype of the draft because we love the unknown and like to pretend we can gauge the transfer of abilities from league to league.

To me, the draft is super exciting each year until the first round is over. It remains important afterwards, but the excitement is gone.

One of at least. QB is definitely right with it.
