I think this happens sometime in the second week of January or so. The House will belong to the Dems, and McConnell will buckle in the Senate and join dems to get the government started back up, going around Trump.

I'm not so sure there aren't enough Republican congressmen that are willing to die on Trump's hill.

If February rolls around, and funding is needed for essential government services, the Congress may feel too much pressure to reopen.

A clean CR already passed the Senate 100-0, so it's not out of the realm of possibility it comes back up the first week.

It would be politically risky for McConnell to override Trump's veto though if it comes to that.

I think that may depend on how Trump responds to such a strong bill on his desk. Probably some Republicans would go along with it, but would balk at voting for an override. Although I think that more and more, Trump's behavior is making it easier for his own party to vote against him.

Hypothetical: Would the bill have any wall funding in it? (more than 1.6)

Honestly would be preferable to reach a compromise (pence suggestion is a good one) but DJT would need to dial down tweets. As that likely never happens, a veto override is most likely.

I have yet to see that. Maybe with a Dem House, things will change, but I seriously doubt it.

Hypothetically, no, just a clean bill to re-open.

$1.6B (or anything less than $5B) will be a loss for Trump.

BTW, a grand bargain will have to be made to ever get the full funds for a wall. Everyone seems to forget that $5B is only about 17% needed.

It is not Trump's hill, it is the U.S. citizens hill. DJT is only the messenger. The sooner the folks in congress realize this the sooner we can move on from this issue.

100% but it will take months or even a year.

Do we ever reach a point where the government will shut down on wasted money like welfare? Is so a spending bill will be passed before that point . Democrats have to pay their voters .

No, it's not, the American people do not support the wall. The Republicans know this.
