First ever government shutdown vs Now

Not sure if there’s been a thread on this already but was listening to NPR earlier where they were comparing the first ever shutdown in 1879 to today’s shutdown. The “expert” they brought on stated they were similar in the fact that a few white men were forcing their racist policy, that only a very few Americans actually wanted.
What they failed to mention was that in 1879 the shutdown was over suppressing black American votes, while today is about protecting ALL Americans. Not to mention that most Americans actually DO want the wall but are too consumed in their TDS.

Claiming keeping out illegals equates to racism is sad for the intellectual integrity of those that continue to purvey it as it pertains to Donald Trump and those that voted for him.

What about to the 50% of Democrats that favored the wall before Trump was nominated? Do they just get a pass now? Have yet to receive a reasonable explanation for it

In 1812 the British burned down the capitol and the government had to flee. That wasn’t a shutdown?

That was more of a war than a shutdown
