Why would you vote yes on amendment 2?
So you'll have to pay royalties tax as well as increased property taxes? You like that??

Also you think taxpayers should fund losers abortions so they dont have to suffer consequences of their actions?

I don't. I happen to hate all pointless amendments, regardless of subject matter. There is already a statute prohibiting abortion in Louisiana, should the SCOTUS ever walk back Roe.

According to an acquaintance who is a state senator regarding amendment 2 “
quote:

Proposed Amendment No. 2: “In Louisiana, we have never taxed land based on the minerals below the ground. We tax oil and gas production as severance based on the current price of oil and gas produced. The same is done for equipment that extracts natural gas. This will look at the fair market value of production. In good times, the value of that equipment will be assessed higher, which would allow our local government to receive increased revenue in good times. In bad times, the assessment would be lower, which gives a break to the oil and gas industry. The Senate voted 33-0-6 for this bill and the House voted 98-0-7. I am voting yes on this bill.

Does the presence or production of O&G not impact the property's value? Seems pretty reasonable that the assessment would incorporate the added or decreased value, no?

As far as having to pay royalties as well, that is a separate tax issue. Would I like it if my taxes went up for any reason? Obviously not. But this seems fair to me.

So an increase in property tax in good times? But not as much of an increase in bad times?

Sounds like it, more or less. If people think our taxes aren’t going up one way or another they’re insane. We had a budget crisis before Covid happened, news flash, governments need taxes to run, like it or not, and ours is behind the eight ball from years of mismanagement, and this is a unique year. I just think it sounds reasonable to me. Just my .02.
