Saw today's add for Winn-Dixie and this weekend, starting Friday-Sunday they are selling Honeysuckle Brand whole frozen turkeys for $.19 a lb. in the 10 lb. and up range if you buy at least $30 worth of other groceries.

Normal price this week according to the ad is $.39 a lb. Can't beat that price for turkey.

I'll wind up picking up a couple to fry for Thanksgiving this year.

So you can normally buy a 14 lb turkey for $5? I can't get a 3lb chicken that cheap. I'm not sure I would eat that turkey.

It's "Marketing 101". Put the turkey on sale for a ridiculously low price and take a loss and lure customers into the store where they'll likely buy most everything else they need while there.

Just got back from Rouses and picked up 8 beautiful mirliton for $1 and will stuff some of them with shrimp and pickle the rest.

Albertson's has their Signature brand turkey for $.17 per lb with the same $30 spending stipulation.

Yep...a "loss leader". Of course, you can make it work to your advantage. A Bi-Lo store near me did that with pork butts. You spend $30 and get a butt for $5. I was already going in there to buy beer for a football Saturday so I took advantage. In fact, we needed a lot of beer so I took a buddy with me and he did the same thing. We smoked a butt, put one in the freezer and got shite faced drunk.

I think the Alberstons sale negated alcohol from the total last time they had it.

Also a PSA - word is the supply chain for sides, spices, and other turkey related food items will likely sell out fast this season due to
COVID causing more ppl to do their own Thanksgiving this year.

You may want to buy your ingredients now.

I started last week getting pantry items. Hoping the fresh items I will need will still be available.

I know I've decided to not have my big gathering this year and that means about 25 other folks will have to make different plans.

I tossed around the idea of still doing my big T-Day party and many of my normal list of invitees said they'd not attend due to this COVID crap going on and showing little sign of going away soon. They are all planning on doing something on their own at their houses.
