last night when that guy broke the world record in the 100 meters despite the fact he quit running the last 20 meters and started looking at the crowd beating his chest? Pretty impressive.

That was unbelievable -- the guy coasted through the world record, high steppin', hold the ball over his head as he crossed the goal line

just watched it. That was disgusting. LINK

No doubt that this guy may be the greatest sprinter of all times but I can't be impressed with a performance like that. He could have set a record that would have stood for ages if he would have simply had the self discipline to run full speed four more steps.
What kind of an example did he set for athletes all over the world. I would be willing to bet that EVERY DAY at practice Les Miles and his coaches are screaming "run through the line" at the top of their lungs.
I know that in our culture today that guy will still get rich off of this but as for me I thought he looked like a piece of shite.

I'd be willing that he plans on crushing his own record at some point. Unlike you, I was pretty damn impressed with his performance regardless of how he wanted to end it.

maybe he cared about winning gold and not the world record
Posted on 8/17/08 at 2:07 pm to someyoungguy
well if i'm not mistaken, didn't they say he had only been running that distance for about a year or so?
he'll have plenty of time in his career to demolish his current WR

Maybe he was smart to not deliver all the goods at one time. Keep those endorsements and publicity coming each time he breaks his own WR by .01 sec. He could ride that train for a long time.

Ah, but you forget about the invincibility of youth. "Nothing will ever happen to me . . . "

Granted, I'm no fan of showboating like he did, however, there's no doubt that the way he ended that race will add to his image and his mystique. The fact that it looks like he's "toying" with the field will make him a much larger international star (and RICH, Beotch!)
That is, until the next great sprinter comes along to challenge him in the next 5-7 years.

I hate showboating - always have always will. He was less than a role model for the youth of this world.

Spoken like a man who always came in fifth.
Hey, Focker, still have any of those 9th place trophies around?
I don't think taking your foot off the gas with .1 tenth of a second left in the race and your hands atou your side is the definition of "showboating".
How about you look at it like he wasn't trying to run up the score??? You know, that would be showboating too.

Obviously he's the problem. Training hard breaking WRs and winning gold medals.
He is the one we need to protect our youth from right?

WR>Gold because if you get the WR you will have the gold too

maybe he wanted to look like a complete bad arse while he demolished the record. that race is one of the coolest things ive seen in a while bc of bolt's reaction and straight bad arse mentality
