Turks and Caicos

Wife and I are going to Turks and Caicos at the end of April. We have reservations at the Somerset on Grace Bay but still open to changing. Any suggestions?

I rented a badass house when I went. Other than that it is beautiful, the water is so gorgeous

Went on a cruise in 2019 to Turks it was some of the most beautiful beaches and water I have ever seen. Did a snorkeling trip but it kinda sucked because the reef was pretty far down but did see some cool fish and some good looking reefs from afar.

OP: have y’all been vaccinated? If so, tell us us if you did the antigen or PCR test for your return to the States when you get back.

He'll be on Providenciales. Different island and not really close to Grand Turk.

Yes we've both been vaccinated. We have to take a test here no more than 5 days before leaving. I don't know which test. We have to take one coming back which the hotel does for free. Again not sure which one.

Looking to do the same after having to cancel another trip. Booked at Ocean Club West while researching options, also open to changing, but slim pickings so close. Seems to be great location on beach and nice enough, and can walk to most places from what I can read. Seems like a pretty low-key place overall, I want to get out and about at least once or twice; any recommendations on excursions for just the wife and I? Figure we'll do a snorkel/SNUBA booze cruise at a minimum.
The Walgreens Red Dot test seems to be the quickest results with convenient locations and accepted by TCI, although they allow for 5 days out instead of 3 just so you don't have to sweat turnaround time. Also need to purchase insurance coverage but I've read it's cheap. OCW also offers the antigen test (accepted by US, rapid results needed within 72 hours) for $25 which helped with booking choice.

It's on Grace Bay Beach. You can walk for miles on it and the water is simply beautiful. It's listed every year as one of if not the most beautiful beach in the world.

Good luck to you! I'm still looking at different hotel options but I don't think there is a whole lot of difference in any of them if you pick something off the top 30 or so lists on the different travel websites. Thanks for the info.

We stayed in a penthouse right in front of the reef on Grace Bay. Walk out and snorkel. Look up islandvibestours. Boat trip for a day. It was a trip highlight. Never seen so many shades of blue water. Guide dropped a conch shell and had us watch-could see 50plus feet deep. We had 8 folks so we did the private tour. Food/booze,etc all included.

I know that.
You still have to fly to Provo to get to GT, and the entry exit requirements are the same. My question was to which test they did to board the return flight: antigen or PCR.

We stayed right next door at Windsong and that reef is pretty incredible for being so close to shore and with so many people swimming around.

Sitting on the beach. Among the best in the Caribbean possibly, but that's about all there is to do frankly. Beautiful beaches though. Best beaches. Grace Bay is spectacular.

Taylor Bay Beach was our favorite but you'd have to drive.
People say you can snorkel here and there is some off the shore there, but I found it to be kind of 'meh. Now, I've been a diver for many years so that's my perspective compared to other places. I will say our best day by far was when we went on the Island Vibes tour. To truly see the best reefs you have to get out there on a boat. It was great. Got to have lunch on the Iguana Island. That was cool.
Want a cool dining experience? Go to Bugaloos.You'll have to rent a car or hire one (We rented one for the week, and it was well worth it. They drive on the left, but you get used to it). The area driving in might look a little sketchy, but it's really not unsafe. We went for lunch.
You'll have a great time all in all. Just bring your wallet.

Full Day or half day with Island Vibes? Double the price for Iguana island and BBQ chicken seems steep.

We did the half day tour. Yeah, they're all pricy. As is the entire island. But you're supporting the local economy so it is what it is I guess. Still the best way to see the decent reefs unless you wanted to hire a private boat. The inshore snorkeling is ok but not great.

As with nearly all of the British islands it is pricey but it's also very safe. Providenciales also has a fantastic restaurant scene.
For something different to do you can take the ferry to North Caicos and then rent a jeep and drive to Middle Caicos. Then head to Mudjin Harbor where you can see Dragon Cay which is aptly named because the rock formation resembles a dragon. There's a restaurant on site and Mudjin Harbor is one of the prettiest little beaches I've been on.
If you can't get into Coco Bistro on Providenciales then Bay Bistro is also very good.

Some ways to mitigate costs some.
Grocery shop in Grace Bay (yeah, costs are high, but it's cheaper than dining out a lot!)
Not too bad seafood prices. Great food btw..

For my money, THE best bar on the island is the Infiniti Bar! The view is spectacular.
