I am planning to go back to Big Bend in early June, driving from Houston. I wanted to go HWY 90 from San Antonio and go by Del Rio. Is it worth it? Is the Lake fishable? What other towns are worth seeing? I was hoping to go to devil's river natural area as well.

Thanks in advance

Big Bend is one of my favorite national parks so I think it’s worth it. My last trip was in 2006 so information may be a bit dated. I did a 3 night camping trip hiking along the rim trail through the chisos mountains. It was July, but the elevation makes for temperate conditions. The chisos mountains generate much more rain then the surrounding desert so the mountain is a true oasis of wildlife. Saw a bear and her two cubs, several mule deer and I believe elk. The views from the trail overlooking into Mexico are just stunning.

Big bend ranch state park is also worth at least a day to just drive through and poke along the river valley. Marfa is a town people enjoy for reasons that are somewhat lost on me. A large chunk of no country for old men takes place in the alpine/marfa/fort Stockton area so bring along a cormac McCarthy novel to help get your mind right.

Three must hikes are lost mines, Emory Peak, and St. Elena Canyon. Also, with it being July it is going to be hot as a mfer when you are not up in the Chisos Mtns. So be prepared water wise and maybe do some acclimation hikes in Houston.

To clarify , my question was really about del Rio and the area between del Rio and Alpine, I planned on visiting the museum there as I have missed it before.

We visited Marfa the first time around, went to a daily mass with 5 other people, they told me in the "Mexican" side of town, only 2 original families were left. I hope they get top dollar from the Yankees and Houston Artsy crowd..

Hmm. I don’t have too much knowledge on attractions between those two cities. A bit further north of alpine is the McDonald observatory. I really enjoy astronomy so think it is a great stop. With covid I am not sure if their night programming is still running.

Langtry is worth a stop to check out the Judge Roy Bean museum.

Way back in '96 I drove from Big Bend to San Antonio via 90, and am glad I did. Nice scenery/country; traffic was not bad and drivers were nice (always willing to pull over towards paved shoulders to let you pass). I generally went about 80 mph for most of the drive.

I stopped at the Judge Roy Bean Museum in Langtry, the Pecos River High Bridge, Lake Amistad, and the San Felipe Natural Spring Park in Del Rio. It was dark after that, so not much to speak of for Hondo, Uvalde, etc.
