Why do people have such a hard time understanding strokes gained?

It's the average amount of strokes it takes to get in the hole from where your ball lies, pretty simple. If the scoring average on a hole is 4.1 and you make a 4 you gained .1 strokes. You can get there infinite different ways but it's super simple.
Yet people still think 27 putts with no context is a good round.

We all understand it. We just don’t care.

That's like saying you don't care that a quarterback completed 85% of his passes but only for 100 yards. You know he didn't have a good game but someone argued he did because he completed almost all of his passes.

Did his team win? That’s all that matters.
Strokes gained don’t matter if you win. None of those guys on the course are thinking about it. Why should I?

Thats quite literally the single biggest factor they use to know how they played and where they could improve.
You are exhibit A

You don't win without leading I strokes gained dumbass.

I can definitively say that there is not ONE thought of SG statistic while those guys are playing. If you are thinking about anthing other than the next shot, you have already screwed your statistical probability of hitting a good shot.

Absolutely not true, if you know a par 5 is playing 4.2 and you make par, you know you lost stokes to the field. If you hit a bad drive and try to get on close to the green with the recovery instead of going out sideways you are taking strokes gained into account when deciding your shot.
My thread title is too accurate. This is the "golf board" and you and others show you don't know a damn thing about how professional golf is played.
Scott Fawcett has a couple of dozen, at least, guys on his Decade system which is a strategy packet sent out on how to play based on what? You got it, strokes gained.

I can't believe y'all are engaging with this prick.

I can't believe you all are so adverse to learning something. Learning is the essence of life.

I thought we'd have at least a few posters here that understand 11/14 fairways doesn't mean anything meaningful, but evidently not.

Strokes gained is a by product of winning.
How would a player know in real time that a hole is playing 4.2 instead of 5? He doesn’t. Players know which holes to go after and where to be safe based on their game. They also know where they are vs the field and have to make moves when they can.
No one down 3 with 9 to play says “yes, I gained .5 on the field.”
Its, I need to catch this guy. Where can I make birdies?

They absolutely do, and it's even mentioned on the broadcast all the time. "man, par there is not great, thats losing a half a stroke" on par 5s all the time

A lot of guys don't even look at the leader board so this isn't true.
If you don't want to believe me just look at Scott Fawcett's Twitter or other outlets, the guy literally provides this stuff to tour players

Because they prepare for the tournament and theres historical data
You're fricking clueless dude.

you are seriously confused about what goes on on the golf course. None of these converstaions happen while playing, absolutely none. These happend before and after the rounds.
if they don't look at the leaderboard, how do they know how many shots they need to make up? Shouldn't they be in the lead...leading all statistical categories in their mind. Free to think about the shot and not how many shots are needed to catch another player??

It is quite simple. Historical data =/= real time data.

In any material sense this is absolutely incorrect almost every time.
You're saying shite you know nothing about, you can look this stuff up
Another person that knows absolutely nothing about strokes gained
