2 week road trip to Yellowstone

Leaving Lafayette and will be visiting my brother in El Paso before heading up there. Any must-stop towns or areas to visit along the way?
We will be bringing our sticks and plan to play golf as much as possible.

What's your route?
Looking at a map, I would go through Durango, and up through Telluride.
The Western Slope of Colorado is also very cool. I loved the desert and that stretch SW of Grand Junction is beautiful.
I'd exit Colorado through the NW corner, around Dinosaur, and drive up into Wyoming through the Flaming Gorge.
The flatlands in Wyoming are boring, not much to mention, but it's only a few hours till you hit Pinedale, and Wind River Brewery. From that point on, you're in beautiful country.
It's a short drive from there to Jackson. I would absolutely take a few days to explore Grand Teton National Park, there are some amazing hikes in the park, and the valley is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
I'd also stop by Melvin to get a beer.

I just got back from both Yellow and Teton and agree with everything you said except short ride. It was about 2.5 hours. Spent more time in Teton and liked it better. Elk Refuge worth visiting.

Things are so far apart, and going anywhere is a days drive, i think my sense of time and distance has changed

The mesa behind Grand Junction is awe inspiring, and the road to Dinosaur takes you through some beautiful country.

Agree with others on staying off the front range. Looks like its about the same time to go up through Moab and mormonland and come in through west yellowstone. I'd do that. Hit Arches/Canyonlands/deadhorse point in Moab.
The stretch from Gallup NM to Cortez CO goes through the navajo res. They had some crazy Corona restrictions when we went that route a few months ago so check on that and prepare accordingly. Basically, on weekends, gas pumps were on, but you couldn't go in the store to buy anything or take a piss.

Up thru CO is great route as the others have said.
Agree with '257', come back via west gate of Yellowstone and head toward SLC, Arches, and ,IMO, Mesa Verde. Trails galore, and the sights are wnoderful.
I have golfed and can recommend The Barn in Logan and Black Mesa in NM, near Santa Fe. Different settings and good courses.
If you can stand an 'off-beat' experience, try the Potato Museum in Blackfoot, Idaho. Order a potato your way, see the museum, and eat a very large tater with anything you want on it.

In Jackson hole right now. I would highly recommend you spending a day in the Grand Teton. Its amazing! Take the short ride to the top of Signal mountain in grand Teton.
Also, there is an app called "just ahead". It's well worth spending the money to have on your phone while visiting parks.
