Everton 2021-2022 Season Thread

Another season, another disappointing mid-table finish, followed by a surprise departure by our savior, Ancelotti.
Followed then by a surprise anointing of Rafa Benetez, a former rival.
Gone permanently are Walcott, Bolasie, King, Besic, and Olsen. Probably going are my boy Bernard and most likely Rodriguez.
So far, as of 7/17/21, our only signing is a free transfer for Begovic from Bournmouth to back up Pickford.
Florida Cup vs Millionaires from Colombia and then Inter or Arsenal at end of July in Orlando. Hope rings eternal for us Toffees.

Now set to play Pumas as Arsenal has pulled out.
Would have preferred to see an MLS side just for novelty but obviously that was impractical. Should be a decent tune up.
The game vs. the Colombian side is at least on ESPN2 (if they haven't changed it due to the tourney falling apart). But not sure why it's 6PM according to Everton and 8:30 per ESPN

I’ll be in Orlando for the match(s).
Tickets were refunded, and then we got to purchase general admission for like $25 each game.
May be the first tourney in human history where the final is before the “playoffs”, but we may get our first trophy in 26 years!!
Also, signed Gray today. Seems like Rafa wants wingers to get the ball in the box for DCL. There are prob worse strategies out there.

Everton win the Florida Cup 10-9 on PKs after a 90 minute 1-1 draw. Begovic scored the winning PK then saved Millonarios’ keeper’s PK. Fun match. Always liked Begovic nice to see him backing up a keeper in the PL.

We should have had at least two additional goals in second half.
Awobi hustled. Digne is superbly talented.
Davies looks like me, except in shape. Dude is slow in all aspects of the game.
Spoke with several Florida cup officials. There’s a documentary being made of the shitshow of the tourney. Arsenal still owes them money. Inter has promised to both return the $$$ and return to the cup.

4-0 in last preseason match.
Granted, we didn’t have a striker, as DCL, Richarlison, and Kean weren’t playing (Kean was a surprise absence).

Solid comeback yesterday. Glad to see Everton continue to attack with the lead late on the match, which is something we haven’t witnessed in past eight years or so.
