Tried that a few times. I never came across a bag of ice that was airtight enough to keep the seasoned water from mixing with the untainted water. It may be only 1 gallon of pure water once melted, but a finely seasoned brew can't bear the risk of unwanted taint.

I season the water knowing I'll be putting a small bag of ice in for the soak. Plus, I consider the ice as compensating for evaporation during the boiling process(my water will boil at least 10 minutes before the first batch goes in. Lastly, I reseason the pot before every batch anyway.
