We have a close friend that doesn't eat gluten. She's courteous enough to bring her own food when she comes over, though cooking gluten free is pretty easy so I sometimes try to accommodate her. She's not obnoxious about it in the least like some people can be.

and if I invite people to my home, I accommodate them, because they are my guest.

Is this about food, or is it some kinda power struggle?

Power struggle over what?

A vegan side dish isn't a big deal to offer to guests. Nor is it a big deal if someone who comes over has to eat lightly or merely have snacks or just a beverage for one damn meal of their lives.

I agree and have said so if you read the thread.
If I skipped meals with my family because they didn't cook things I liked, I'd miss 7 out of every 10 nearly weekly meals which usually include boneless skinless chicken breasts that I don't like and that they know I don't like. My point was I wouldn't miss meals/time with family because I don't like the food choices or they don't cook something special for me. I'm free to cook something myself if I want to contribute to the meal and sometimes, I do and sometimes, I don't. (I'm not considered a guest at family meals. ) It wasn't even about pro or anti vegan.

For those times when you feel like you keep having the same meals over and over, try a meatless meal. One day per week, prepare something without meat. It doesn't have to be completely vegan. It opens up a plethora of new recipes. You will discover a few new favorites, and the next time you host a veggie you will have something you can make that is familiar to you.

I'm sure most of us enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup, cheese/veggie pizza, salads without a meat, platters of side dishes, etc. plenty. It is only once you use the word "vegetarian" that people lose their shite. Annoying vegans exist, but I think anti-vegans are far louder and more insufferable.

Being a good host is important to me. You bet your arse I'd accommodate any diet preference. I don't invite demanding assholes over, either.

Gris - Some of your posts in this thread have a condescending tone, although I know you didn't intend that. Probably the vibe Embo got. I prioritize literally everything on earth over seeing extended family.
