Any Grappa fans here?

I just don't get it. I understand that it's believed to help with digestion after a meal, but the taste is, well, downright nasty to me.
What am I missing?

I learned everything I need to know about Grappa by watching this a long time ago. That said, I can't say I've found one that's good.

I have a bottle from Italy I’ve never opened. It was okay tasting it at a winery

I like it, but you have to realize it's basically just grape moonshine.
Babbo in NYC used to have a bunch of fruit infused ones (maybe they still do - this was maybe 15 years ago) and if you ordered it, they'd happily give you as much of as many different ones as you desired. They kept bringing it, but I vaguely recalled getting a "look" by the waiter toward the end.

I travel to Pecs, Hungary for a week or two every other month for work, and in the historical university district there is an obscure little Italian restaurant called Elefante. They have this tomato soup there that is unlike anything I've ever had, it's like eating the raw essence of tomato. I'm there at least every other night, there's some trips it's the only place I'll go.
Anyway, I can't leave there without having at least two little cups of grappa just about forced down my throat at gunpoint. I've never paid for it, they just keep bring it out all happy amd excited and drink with me, lol.

A quality restaurant in Italy will offer good grappa brandy at the end of a meal. Lower quality places offer lemoncello. Personally, I like grappa and find it a lot like pisco... an acquired taste.
Made from leftover grape pulp, skins and woody stems, it may contain traces of methanol and fusils.
There is a wide range of qualities in Italy like other barndies, but very few choices in the US... unfortunately.

It's definitely an acquired taste. Cheap/ basic grappa is harsh with a strong aftertaste.
Good/ craft grappa is smooth and very enjoyable.
Some great grappa we sampled abroad.
