I received this one today as an early "holiday" present from a contractor. The card has no info and there are no markings or labels anywhere on the knife or box. Any ideas? The handle seems pretty distinctive but don't recognize it either.
This contractor is big in the Southeast, but this could (and likely did) come from China for all I know.

Recognize the blade as Damascus steel, so it's likely a very nicely made knife if they put that much effort into the steel for making the blade itself
The back end of the handle looks to be some sort of turned burl wood, which is top of the line stuff when it comes to woodworking and turning as the burls they come from are prized by woodworkers.

Yeah, the handle is pretty.
I don't expect this to be anything incredible since they surely sent out hundreds to clients, just curious.

Pretty sure it’s this knife (or at least maker)

Looks similar to this Senken knife.
We might have a winner. The cutting edge pattern looks real close to the OP's pics if the blade.

Yeah, that steel pattern and the way the handle is resin/burl is spot on.
Mine is a little heavier (7.15oz.) than the spec, but that's not far off.

Is it a single edge or double edge?

not chefs knife, santuko knife. my personal favorite knife.
i think the second knife linked in this post is probably good contender. a low-mid range knife with decent steel. it will be a good using knife and it looks good. best way to tell is use it, see how long it maintains its edge, and how well it sharpens.

Correct, my favorite as well.

VG 10 is the steel, Japanese high end powdered not Damascus. This steel is not usually made to be sharpened by an amateur as they usually use a different angle and is a harder steel as well.

I think you are correct in this assessment re origin. The "Damascus" pattern looks too regular, I think it is acid etched as opposed to a genuinely crafted Damascus steel blade, but I couldn't tell you for sure without it being in my hand. No reason it can't be a good knife, but just from the look at the pics, I would surmise that it is not a handmade Japanese knife.
