Not overrated. I equally enjoy both fried and smoked turkeys. But every now and then, I crave a good ole fashioned baked turkey.

Nothing fried is overrated in my book.

I'm not really a fan of smoked turkeys... changes the flavor too much.

Maybe. Seems like a lot of the injected marinate sucks, which causes problems--there's often artificial butter flavorings and other weird stuff in there.

That's why I eat the dark meat. The leftover white meat goes in the turkey andouille gumbo.

I like both fried and baked as long as they are not dry. I can't do a smoked turkey. Gives me heartburn to no end and I can blow smoke rings.

Thats what I love about a smoked turkey, because naturally, turkey meat is rather bland - thats why we inject it when frying/roasting it.

I think you can't beat a great tasting fried turkey, but I'll also never turn down a smoked turkey, and both are >>> oven roasted turkey.

Fried turkeys are hard to beat...and I love them

But by frying you give up the pan drippings which is key to a great Turkey gravy.

So bottom line

Fried turkeys are the best, but for Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimming and gravy, then fresh oven baked Turkey is the way to go IMO

But an over baked turkey is such a waste.

Did I ever mention that I love gravy

Dumb question, but is the Popeye's turkey available at any Popeye's location?

This is where I stand.

And Thanksgiving's really about the only time I want to eat turkey. Therefore, I don't have much use for a fried one.

I'm not saying they're horrible, or anything, though. I just don't think they're the best thing since sliced bread.

Yes, but not at all locations. you have to call them and find out. you also have to order it ahead of time.

In and of themselves...fried is way better. Now the whole giblet gravy issue...well I have been fortuanate I guess...When I have had fried on Thanksgiving, there was also a backed turkey for all the other stuff...best of both worlds, if you will. You don't have to restrict yourself to just one or the other.

+1, I usually skip over the turkey and go straight for the pork loin and the deer roast.

Smoked Turkey is an art, you can't use hickory, it's too strong, I just use straight lump charcoal, and throw one or two chunks of white oak in. Got to be careful with the some,

I love fried turkey - but I always make a gravy with the neck - cause I gotta have gravy with my turkey - awesome - and always inject the turkey at least a day in advance

I've never heard of getting a turkey from Popeye's... interesting.

Actually did Thanksgiving a couple of years ago at Sis-in-Law's in Austin, and did not feel like packing all my gear, so got the Popeyes there to do one for me-even picked it up hot that morning, and it was pretty decent.
