I probably should join something like that.
Ok so I am a little biased about this organization. I am a member but hate going to the meetings. If I was new to homebrewing I would be pissed and turned off by going to their meetings. Nothing happens and they barely talk about beer. You won't learn anything and the guys in charge are kind of pompous. Obviously others will have a difference of opinion, but that is just mine.
A couple of guys and I are trying to get a club off the ground. We are in the process of developing a website that will actually host beer stuff; instructions, how-to videos and pictures, recipes, etc. I am going to pimp it on the board when it is up and running to get people interested.
If you are interested in learning or are interested in being in a club, you are more than welcome to come to a brewday. I know we are brewing tomorrow evening (wed) and most likely on Sat. We are planing to do the brewing for our upcoming Oktoberfest party next weekend I think.

A buddy of mine joined up with the MKOB over in Covington, and came away with almost the exact view of their meetings. Said the meetings were the least homebrew-related stuff they did.

This is a big reason I get turned away from groups like that. The people running them always seem to think their shite dont stink.

Well Catman if you are interested you are more than welcome to come to a brew day and have a few drinks with us. We could always use more minds in our brewing process. I say "our" like it is something formalized. The 5 of us just enjoy brewing and hanging out drinking.

Just took a keg apart to fill up, but the little gasket may be too damaged (accident) Where can you get a new one
Also, what are some ways to clean a really old keg other than bleach and the high power jet of water?

If you mean a corny keg, you can get gasket kits from most of the online homebrew sources. Or, if you've got a few kegs, you can order a ton of orings from mcmaster-carr. If in BR and you need 1 or 2, I can hook you up if you need.

do NOT use bleach on a keg. bleach will pit stainless steel. i'd soak a nasty keg overnight in oxyclean, dump, and repeat. once done, rinse a few times and then sanitize with some star-san or the like, and then pressurize and seal. it'll hold well until you decide to keg a batch.
