Rao's?

I wanted to ask if anyone had been here. Supposed to be one of the hardest places to get into in NYC.

Il Mulino in the village.

Do not waste your time at Babbo (Mario Batalli place in West Village). Aside from an awesome beer I'll never find again, nothing was great.

It's been several years, but my meal at Babbo was good. In the last couple of years I've have had nice meals at:

Il Buco (more formal) & Il Buco Alimentari (casual)
L'Apacio
Locanda Verde
Lupa
Perla
Porsena - also the sandwich shop Porchetta.

Porsena has become a go to in the city. Met the owner/chef in a salumeria in Rome and Sara takes care of us. The food belies its more neighborhood place feel. And it's just a few blocks from where we stay.

Bar Primi is the first Carmellini restaurant that let me down.

Babbo was ok but the music is too fricking loud.

I was afraid it would be cheesy...nope, it's just perfect execution of an old style of dining

Not quite but I do have tinnitus - which is crickets in both ears - so if I say it's loud it's fricking loud.

Now I'm not so old I don't listen to Led Zeppelin.

Piccolo Angolo in the West Village. You can take the A-train from the theater district and its a couple blocks from the 14th St. station.

I used to go to NYC twice a month for 2 years and this was one of the few restaurants I would go to regularly. It is a small place, even by NYC standards, so I would recommend making reservations. The food is great, the service is excellent and it is a very unpretentious place.
