You need to always tell a place when the food is not to your liking. Be upfront.

How raw was it?
I eat my steaks Pittsburg sometimes, which is like a total cook time of 3-4 minutes.

Raw in the middle.

A steak can easily be cooked up a temp and it isn't a problem at all.

So they sent it out one temp low and you were this upset?

You do get that these things happen when you have 30 steaks on a broiler at once.

same reason we give online reviews..
So others can know what to expect at places and what to avoid.

But the OP's complaints seem pretty weak. Surely not bitch post worthy.

Exactly. When the Pastime drama unfolded, one of the biggest things the owner accused us of is hammering restaurants into the ground every time a simple mistake happens, and we kept arguing that we don't do that here.

I believe OP that this happened, but so what? This is a small thing. You're being served by humans, and humans make mistakes sometimes. They attempted to right the wrong.

Also, attitude has a lot to do with it. OP is saying he was ill at the thought of a mistake And he privately asked for their check because the steak upset him so much that he wanted to leave the rest of the group and go home. I find that to be more of making a scene than just asking them to toss the steak on a little longer.

I've eaten at Jubans many times and I find it to be a great place with good food. I've had the ribeye there a few times and was always cooked just as ordered. OP should have simply asked to have the steaks cooked a bit more. No big deal.

Would you have called the waiter "garcon" too. Why do I find this so funny.

No, wait, you would have called him Charlie.

Does someone need to explain to you the point of a message board?

Because growing up my father had favorite waiters at The Village and at Jack Sabins, both named Charlie. So no matter where he went he called every waiter Charlie. So it's in his honor.

And fwiw I don't eat the steak at Jubans, I eat there probably once a month either lunch or dinner and cannot remember a bad meal or bad service. I've eaten alone and been in large groups. Not that it doesn't happen but if it did i could handle it. Apparently though someone stepped on the OP's tampon string and made him cry.

This is really sweet to me. Haha.

We did our Friday lunch there per your suggestion on here and everything was very good. And the waitress was beyond nice. Told her where we were going out that night if she wanted to meet up lol.
That's actually how I met my old roommate. A cool server makes the meal even better.

I've had it with a large group and select menu. The meal was very underwhelming. I wish I would have had a good meal. Place seemed grossly overrated but I guess that may not be the best way to judge them.

Sounds like you just need to sack up and learn to eat a steak properly.

This is the real problem, IMO. You should have spoken up instead of just taking it up the tailpipe.

Its no big deal to send a steak back that's under cooked . The manager would far rather someone does that than writes a letter etc... Lots of restaurants won't split checks on parties of a certain size because it such a mess depending on computer systems. They may have needed another server to assist with your table. If you do write a letter the manager will surely say " I wish you could have told me about your issue while you were here and we could have fixed it while you were here." Bottom line- no problem sending something back that's not prepared correctly. Don't be an arse about it and the restaurant 99% of time will be very understanding and truly want to get you exactly what you wanted.

If that is the worst food experience of your entire life, consider yourself lucky to be blessed with a charmed life.

I agree with that, and I hate "beta" but that was a very beta move.

Steaks being under-cooked is common. Hell I was a broil cook at two places and we were always told to slightly cook it under temp as the hot plates they put the steak on can raise them temp. You can always heat a steak back up. You can uncook it. (you can soak it in beet juice though to fool them. )

You didn't want to do the simple thing and send the steak back, so as to not "cause a scene", but you sat there and pouted until they brought you an uncooked one in a baggie? Am I reading that right?

That sounds like a scene to me, itself.

Damn. Usually when I see a thread that doesn't go like the OP imagined, it's over on the OT.
