I used a suggested Tupperware called,
Systema.
I can press on the top and hear air flow out.
I assume that it’s not really airtight. But it seems that that might be perfect.
Slight airflow but stays at 66% rh.

Trying a new to me Avo and some Tahwahkaro from a distillery in Grapevine.
The winador is just about the best setup I have seen.

I use the systema and Rubbermaid brilliance for single sticks. Make sure the O-ring is in place, and over small time it’s gonna seal tighter.
And they are not gonna be 100% airtight, just like humidors aren’t gonna be 100% shut solid.
I use this for full boxes, and for aging. It has a thick foam gasket.
That and 2 of these, and I’m good for more than a year.
And FYI

That thing is just sexy. I’m toying around with the idea of a dual zone, wine and cigar “fridge” to put in our kitchen island. Cigar humidor on top, and wine cooler on the bottom. It probably won’t work, but a man can dream

It does read 54%, but picture was taken after restocking the humidor and door open for awhile. The RH typically runs in the 64% to 67% range, only dipping when the compressor kicks on. The temp rarely varies from 69°. There is also a 120mm fan in the bottom that runs for 30 minutes every hour, 24 hours a day.

Thanks man. Not sure about a dual zone setup as you need the temp to be mid 60's to 70° at a minimum for storing cigars. If you could somehow figure out how to turn the zone off at the top, the ambient temp might stay in an acceptable range if the lower unit is cool enough to have some carry over affect. Interesting idea and worth looking into. I'd be more than happy to share any tips and advice from my trial run period should you want to pursue.

Thanks and I have been very happy with it once I got dialed in and acclimated. I had the wine cooler sitting around unused after we built our bar. Almost gave it away. When researching NewAir coolers for our bar, I stumbled across one of these units that is actually made by the mfg for cigars. Researched DIY winadors and this is the result.

I’m no engineer, but my thinking is if I can get an air tight, heavily insulated barrier between the two sections, I should be ok. The issue will be rerouting the compressor to only cool the bottom.

Y’all might get a chuckle out of this mess.

Hygrometers are the most inaccurate tool for measurement. My digital and analog ones never read the same. As long as I’m within 70-72% on both I’m good.

There are two of the four hygrometers I have that I trust. My storage situation is different from most, so if the cumulative is in and acceptable range, I'm good and the cigars smoke just fine.
I tend to go for a lower RH, at 65% when the temp is at a constant 69° as I have over 100 cigars in stock, currently. Air flow is critical in my situation, too.

So a question.
I am doing the salt calibration method right now.
But my question is can you use a Boveda 75%in a bag with a hygrometer and basically get the same result?
I think what I’m saying is if you have a boveda pack in a small humidor, the boveda ACTUALLY IS THE hygrometer in some respects. Right?

Trying a Drew Estate that the guy at shop recommended. So far so good. Hope everyone enjoys the last weekend without college football

Boveda makes a calibration kit, and the salt calibration method is to make sure your hygrometer is accurate as salt and water in a baggie will be 75% RH.
I would run the salt calibration first, calibrate your hygrometer and then use the 75 boveda to see if your hygrometer reads 75%RH.

I guess I’m asking,
Boveda does such a good Job with two way RH, Do you really need a hygrometer?

Do you really need a hygrometer?
IMO, Yes. The boveda's don't last forever and it's good to know when they are drying up. Get a good quality digital hygrometer not only for RH, but for temp as well.
