There were 3. Two on the tornado and one on the haunting. You askeered me. I thought I was going to have to give up drinking and join Bill O'Reilly at his AA meetings.

So the real reason not to use tomato is the spanish inquisition.

That's my take, too, Catman.

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

You like to dwell on this cookbook thing as dont you?? They have to fill pages in cookbooks. If there was only 1 recipe there wouldnt be a need to buy more cookbooks
I have checked 38 of my cookbooks and only 3 have no jambalaya recipes with tomato. I haven't even bothered with the N.O. cookbooks like Antoine's, Arnaud's, Austin Leslie's, New Orleans Cookbook, etc., because we already know that answer.
If you write a cookbook, you are staking your reputation on the quality and make up of its recipes. All these chefs and community organizations didn't care about that?
Man, give it up. It's OK that you didn't know jambalaya almost universally contains some form of tomato. It's OK not to like it, just don't make ridiculous claims about authenticity or what is "traditional".

Thanks, Wink. I knew my faith was solid. I've only posted there 3 times since March 26. The old ones are before I knew better.

Even I don't get that riled up on people putting okra and tomatoes in gumbo, which is a cardinal sin, of course.

Dude... Spanish Inquisition already!
Have I not been saying that some people use tomato as a browning agent? Thats not the same as making a Red Jambalaya or Creole Jambalaya.
How many of those cookbooks had ONLY tomato recipes?

I really don't like it when you do that.

The second style, more characteristic of southwestern and south-central Louisiana, is Cajun jambalaya, which contains no tomatoes (the idea being the closer to New Orleans one gets, the more common tomatoes are in dishes).
shite even wiki has it wrong then..
But honestly this is a joke..

Pointing to cook books does not validate this dumb arse comment.
