If you are sitting downstairs at Galatoire’s you can’t get anymore classic New Orleans than that.

OK, thanks for the update.
It would never have occurred to me to make a reservation for the main dining room at Galatoire's.
Another New Orleans tradition gone.

Galatoire’s does take reservations for downstairs now. This started about a year or so ago. They make you give them your credit card number and you forfeit $50 per person if you are a no show.

Friday lunch there is usually a line. On that day you wait in a line for the main room. And reservations are for upstairs.
I know certain days it's really hard to get a table. People pay people to stand in line for them even.

I disagree and has not been my experience.
I had lunch Mother’s Day and lunch during Xmas holidays… reservations both times, seated downstairs both times.
All of my other visits were dinner, always reservations, always main dining room.
If on other days people wait in line for a table, I’ve never seen it.

And mothers day isn't a Friday lunch I'm saying Friday lunch is the tradition and you need to wait in line for the main room.
