I'll get the fish if someone wants to share, especially the flounder.

I went to Pascal's two Fridays ago. I got the shrimp and crab remoulade for my app. I enjoyed it. I was disappointed that I couldn't get raw oysters at the dining table, since the only shucker was in the bar area.

For the entree, I went with the shrimp diablo over eggplant instead of pasta. It was good, but way too much food. I wasn't blown away.

+1 last time I went in January I thought to myself "man the accolades are starting to reflect in price" .. at least the quality and quantities of everything we ate was still worthy of all the praise the place gets. hope it stays that way.

It only took Shaya a full 10 days in business before they increased almost their entire menu upwards of 25%

with that being said, both Shaya and Peche are still wonderful value meals in Nola…last week at Peche we walked away 42 bucks a head after tax tip drinks food.

Supply and demand brother.

Im seeing that the move towards small plates (which used to be called appetizers) is having some effects on what we use to call entrees and are now called "large plates". With restaurants built around sharing, they figure a table of two will share 2-4 small plates and 1 large plate (multiply by however many people are at table above 2, divisible by two).

So they are pricing large plates accordingly. So basically a $55 whole fish or rib eye is two $27.50 entrees.

It's pretty god awful. Along with the other one-word names and cutesy shite like Table + Fork, or DINE. or Napkin.

It's technically "Cochon Butcher" and at list Peche isn't in English. Additionally, anyone with a brain can tell the difference between a legitimate, delicious, well-run restaurant and some schmo just using a marketing ploy to try and capitalize on a trend.

ETA:

Peche
Butcher
Cochon
Bourgne
Satsuma
Maurepas
Kebab

ft, let's not pretend these are the same generic names as the restaurants that use common words like Eat, Spoon, Fork, Noodle & Pie, etc.

Different languages are acceptable. Or I guess the name gets a pass if the James Beard folks are ok with it.

I guess I fail to see why you are arguing against liking creativity..

Cochon = creative
Toast = some schmo that doesn't know how to run a restaurant.

Maybe they should have called it French Toast

I just don't get the obsession with what name a restaurant chooses.

If they are along the lines of Fudpuckers I am with you.

Eh, I'm with R2R on that.

I almost wish he didn't say "one word name" because it isn't so much the fact that it is one word.. it is that it is some random word in an attempt to be trendy.

The first thing that comes up when I Google "Peche restaurant" is Peche's website.
The first thing that comes up when I Google "Eat restaurant" is a bunch of random links that don't point to Eat. A bunch of BR restaurant lists, actually.

This means an out-of-towner can't Google the restaurant "Eat" without further details. Whereas they can Google Peche just fine.

I know this is a very first world gripe, but I get what he's saying. It is an attempt to look trendy.

One really strong one-word-name is different than "Spoon," which makes no sense.

Everybody has their little pet peeves that don't mean a lot in the grand scheme of things. He doesn't seem obsessive about it to me.

I just googled Eat and the restaurant was the first to come up. Granted I'm located in New Orleans. I do see your point but how hard is it to type in "eat restaurant New Orleans"? What do you type if you wanted to look up August or NOLA ?

I just don't see getting hung up on a place because of its name to the point you will talk bad about it yet never stepped foot in the place.
