and i think everything you put on a menu at a supposed five-star restaurant should be five-star quality
The world isnt a perfect place, but that would be nice. It's just not gonna happen. Some restaurants/chefs take more pride in certain dishes than they do in others. Everything you get at a resturant is not gonna be the best ever. Some restaurants are better at certain dishes than others are, and vice versa.

why do they get a mulligan at those prices
Stroubes has cheaper steaks than Flemings does, Lonestar has cheaper steaks than Stroubes does. Flemings>Stroubes>Lonestar. You get what you pay for.

but not when people are dropping $150+ on dinner
You can get in and out of Stroubes for much less than that, if you plan on dropping $150 and want a steak, I would hit a steakhouse, maybe I'm wrong though.

but you can't fall back on the "well, we aren't a chophouse anymore .." excuse either ...
I'm sure an employee of Stroubes would not take that stance if someone complained about an underwhelming steak. That's just the way I look at it and I rarely leave a restaurant unhappy.
When you look at the dishes on Stroubes menu and you see so many things that are unique to that restuarant compared to other BR restraunts, it's evident to me, that I should order one of these unique/specialty dishes, rather than to order a steak, which you can get from %90 of BR resturants.
Your making it sound like the OP had a steak that wasn't worthy of McDonalds or something.

I don't think a steak has to grade prime and cost 45 bucks to be really good. Guess I'm in the minority.

i'm gonna assume you overlooked this:

one of the best steaks in BR is served at tsunami .. which, by most accounts, isn't a chophouse either .. and it is cheaper than either stroube's or flemings .. so much for that theory ..

no .. you are apparently .. i am saying the steak should be on par with the rest of the menu ..

no .. i completely agree with that .. the average joe can buy a new york strip at albertson's a grill a decent steak at home .. so why can't a five-star restaurant grill/broil one that wows a customer and is on par with the rest of its menu that draws raves ?

yeah, i love how it is now the OP's fault for ordering a steak now ..

I've had one and I was not impressed at all. So much for that theory. Maybe I should have gotten sushi though...

I've had a steak from Stroubes and enjoyed it. I think thier steaks are just fine.

I haven't had it so cant tell you, but it seems like people get caught up in the hype, then on the first time over they order a steak and aren't "WOW'ed" (like friends/coworkers/ect told them they would be) they get a feeling of being taken

and understand, i am working off of what i am reading in this thread, myself .. and it sounds like the OP wasn't the only person to feel this way .. i personally have never sampled the steak myself .. but i wouldn't be the best judge .. i am not a picky eater ..

and i am not going to sit here and argue with you either .. if you didn't like it, you didn't like it .. i am also not going to say it was your fault for ordering a steak at a sushi place either ..

and this is probably very true ... particularly in this instance ..

Rag, let's not forget that taste is subjective. The OP might be the diner that wants a hand job from the waiter when the entree is presented, and without it, he's been gigged. I don't know. But, I'd hate to run a place down and assume that the steaks served are substandard without trying the dish myself and seeing if it satisfied my own, subjective taste test.

I know it's hard to believe, but, I'm slightly confused..

Posted on 10/12/11 at 1:26 pm to OTIS2
oh, i know .. i'd probably think the steak was good if i tried it .. but no one is running the place down .. just wondering aloud why the steak quality isn't commensurate with the seafood, duck, and salads .. that's all .. i have never seen anyone say a bad thing about those dishes ever on here ..
Posted on 10/12/11 at 1:28 pm to TigahRag
If I'm going out and paying that much for steaking I'm going to either Ruth's Chris or Crescent City IMO FWIW NBA

I know the type, but I'm pretty much the polar opposite. I cooked professionally in New Orleans for a while, so I like to think that I somewhat know what I'm talking about.

did you notice any staff member that you would have welcomed a hand job from, btw ??
