that menu is far too sprawling for a booze house. focus it a bit and i might have an interest.
eta: and to the original post, good. They really need a grocery in that area, now lets see if it ever opens and in what capacity.

The neighborhood still needs more things...I think foremost, it needs more residents. With more residents comes more development and amenities. It needs improved streescaping to make it more walkable. The FQ is just so walkable that I don't think twice about traversing 6-10 blocks. The WH District, however, has spotty streets and some dark blocks. The two blocks of magazine they did by the WWII Museum should be what the whole area is like.

The city wont pay for that.

I realize that...improved crosswalks and some more trees, gardens, etc is already budgeted for this year or next.
The whole district street running upt to downtown are getting redone completely as part of the pre-Superbowl plans.
Separate funds from holding off on the expansion of the COnvention Center (phase iv) are getting funneled to sidewalks and streetscaping in the FQ, Rampart and WH District.

What the warehouse district needs more than anything is PARKING. Now w/ the whole having to pay meters on Saturdays...even more so.

We need more parking too.
Signed,
SoHo, The Village, Georgetown, Old town Alexandria, and every other great urban neighborhood in America
No time to search for a link...it was in City Business a while back...
Priority order was FQ then Rampart then WH District...we had already taken tons of bonds out to pay for Phase IV...they put that plan on hold when Convention business went down (not just here, but all over now).

All the convenient Metro/Subway stops help alleviate the need to worry about parking in the Warehouse District.

Most other major urban neighborhoods have more conveniently located garage parking options. Expensive as all hell, but more convenient. I assume the WHD will follow this model in due time. People wanting free parking, dream on.
eta: also, better public transit helps with this as well.
edit again: screw you YA, beat me to it.

Absolutely ZERO metro stops in Georgetown. The only metro near old town is a very long walk from Old Town. I loved in Old Town for a year so I should know this one.

Wait...what...there are tons of garages and lots to park in inside the WH District. I thought the poster who mentioned it was bitching about free parking...thats just not how it works.
I always park free or at a meter for like $2...I really don't see the problem. I also valet at Harrah's for free whenever too.

As much as TA strains to do so, trying to make the Warehouse District out to be some sort of grand urban style neighborhood, such as you'd find in NYC, is really a reach.
That's not to say, it's not an okay place to live. I've actually done so. Sticking to the main thrust of the topic, the old Roberts was really a great grocery option for the area. It's a shame nobody will do anything with that building. I question the business plan of a little boutique style grocery.

Many folks living in those areas still don't have cars. You really can't survive in N.O. without one.

I loved in DC and have been to NYC literally 20 or so times. I know what urban living is...the Warehouse District falls short of these huge urban area...no shite. It is a huge stride though for the city...re-urbanization is the future of modern American cities.

I know several people who do survive well without a car....the Quarters.
But generally, I agree....most of that is on the city to provide better mass transit.
I do have 3 friends that live in the WH District and maybe use their cars 1-2 times a week.

but they seem to be more out on the fringe areas. Most of the garages i notice in the interior seem to be private.

agreed, and the WHD seems to be finally seeing the light. Hopefully more and more cities embrace this idea and stop the sprawl.

WWII Museum is going to build a six story garage.
I mean where would you go that you are more than two blocks away from a lot or a garage???
