Wow, really? El Rio Grande has been there for years, on Airline near Cortana. My favorites there are the cheese/onion chili enchiladas con huevos, and the chocolate chimichanga. La Morenita is a Mexican meat market/grocery/cafe down Florida Blvd. past Cortana.

Juan's chips and salsa blow, which is why I am reluctant to eat there even though I enjoy their other food.

Not to mention they are slow as frick and the food is average.

yeah there's no doubt Juan's salsa is complete shite. their tacos, quesadillas, etc. are all quality. better than RH, as already stated by several folks.

Salsa. If they don't serve warm salsa and they bring it out cold, they automatically suck.

Yea, I'm a big fan of Juan's. I usually get the chicken nachos, but I enjoy the tacos as well. They make a pretty solid margarita as well.

Chevy's Tex Mex was the one near Esplanade. I believe there were a couple of locations in New Orleans, actually. There salsa was incredible, as were their fresh watermelon margaritas.

I usually eat Juan's to-go since it's so close to my house and they usually have a wait for table during prime hours, I don't feel like waiting 15-30 minutes .. so I can't comment on their margaritas. I'm sure they're solid. The blackened redfish tacos are great, the chili chicken & goat cheese quesadillas are solid, the enchiladas could use some work but not bad by any means. Just wish their salsa wasn't so god awful. I much prefer the red sauce + green sauce they serve as sides.

they are "ok"

Haven't had the other items mentioned. I like their flying burrito though.

ETA: And what's worse is they want you to pay for that god awful salsa

Reading some of the responses in this thread it's obvious why we don't have many great Mexican restaurants.

Not a prominent enough Hispanic population. Never had good Hispanic food where Hispanic people don't live.

At least not authentic stuff. You can have fun and interesting fusion joints, and that's just fine. But sometimes I want some real tacos, tortas, mole, or whatever the current craving is.

Damn, forgot about those... Yeah they are good.

I just wish they'd revamp their salsa recipe

Somebody told me I can't trust people from Kennerbrah

Dated a girl from there once. I don't even go to Metairie now.

I'd like to see you walk in Ideal Market and tell them this.
